PAYING THE FINE
"Your Steam account has been seen engaging in illegal activities related to the Challengermode website (marked as suspicious in the Steam registry), fake matches, using multiple accounts to vote, receiving items by fraudulent means, and other activities that mislead Steam users.

After using the Challengermode website, you received a suspicious number of reports on your Steam profile, such as cheating, unfair winnings, receiving Dota 2 items fraudulently.

Due to the high number of complaints against your account in too short a period of time, we suspect that these complaints were made intentionally to block your account. I apologize for this situation, please could you tell us in more detail what you know about this case, then you will be very helpful in understanding what is the matter and this will speed up the unlocking of your account."

I received this from Steam Support and now i need to pay some amount of fine to prevent my account from get block by steam. Is this legit? anyone ever having the same issue?

p/s: i do click the invitation from some friend in my friend list.

Nothing like that would have come from steam.
Whoever sent this to you is the scammer and not your friend anymore.
I've never heard someone having to pay a fine for suspicious report , sound like a scam.

if you where caught cheating the anti-cheat system is automated and valve won't contact you about it.

It's a scam, Steam Support it never contact you first, you have to reach out to them. They will also never ask for any kind of money or for you to trade items.

sorry this happened, partner

use these steps, put together over the years by users smarter than i am, as needed

if you do not have access to your account

Account Recovery
Make sure you are completely logged out of Steam before you start the recovery process

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1126288560

https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithAccountStolen

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2347-qdfn-4366

you don't need access to the email, phone number or password tied to the account for this to work. p
Just pick the "i forgot my password" and then "I no longer have access..." options when asked.

----------------------------------------------------------------

if you still have access to your account
(or after getting your account back, or just to be safe)

make sure to do all of these

DO NOT TRADE
many scams try and scare you into trading your items and they get hijacked

1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/

2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

3. Change passwords from a trusted/clean computer.

4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

5. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)

-----------------------------------------------------

as for any items lost or balance spent, those will not be returned as it is our responsibilty to keep our accounts secure

Not really unless you know their names, or if friends with them somewhere else like discord, or etc, maybe Steam friend history from 3rd party site if ever recorded whom you were friends with if it was set to public before losing your friends.

Not much of an option really.

Could check your Steam chat history, incase scammer used your account to message your friends, if it happen, then that be one way to reconnect with them, just note you should explain they shouldn't click the link that was sent, and account was hijacked so they understand not to use the link the scammer gave to them.

To find chat history go to steam help page > my account > data related to my account > looking for chat history.

You could use a website like https://steamid.uk/profile/76561198007880673 to see a list of your past friends but it requires you to login with your steam account to see your recorded friends list.

Use at your own risk i don't know this site because i never use my steam account outside of the official steam website/client. It was one of the first websites that i found via google. :lunar2019piginablanket:

Oh, so that's what the spammers send on Steam. I always wondered :-)

(Since I've never actually got anything like this myself in my 10 years on Steam)
there a lot's of variation on the scam , sometime it's ''go over there and vote for my friend Counter strike Pro team'' as much then free cosmetics or free ingame currency.

Steam Support do not extort users. This was an obvious scam.

Did you check your block list? The scammer might have blocked your friends after sending phishing links.
