Visual novels that contain inappropriate things involving middle schoolers and underage children are going to face issue on steam. Console releases of said games are often censored while they try to push the uncensored version on Steam.
Are you suggesting Chaos Head, Gnosia, and the ace attourney trilogy are shovelwere? The guys who crammed the GBA console to its limit and constantly tested cartridge optimization are shovelware? really? Come on man be reasonable.
That's a tall order for some folks.
Also just cause you don't like the genre, adult material or not, visual novels ain't exactly shovel ware. You just don't have an eye for it. One could argue COD is shovel ware these days, and a lot less free and creative than some VN's out there

telltale games and then new dispatch game are visual novels with quick time events and steam goes to bat for them 1000%
