Say NO to hidden object games!
There are THOUSANDS of them, the potential to flood steam so bad it could be a literal 1 : 1 ratio of real games to this crap. Labors of love that people wanted to make all their lives will be pushed off the main page by dozens of these soulless abominations. Being on the front page is important to them, yet steam gives no alternatives and mixes this drivel with them. And it will soon get worse. Much, much worse.

Keep them off steam or at least keep them seperate in their OWN section on the store. Just keep them the hell away from the REAL games that deserve their recognition. Valve, you are messing with the developers and the gamers who made you what you are today. We do NOT WANT HIDDEN OBJECT GAMES

It's not gonna happen!

That's all you can say? I can literally interpret that as anything. You are not even willing to discuss a possible filter for them or to talk about my point on why a hidden object game is worthy of the same recognition as a big budget release. No matter what side you are on, that makes no sense. There is no other way to put it other then to call it stupid.

I don't even know if you are agreeing or disagreeing anyways, so whatever. Please, come back with something to actually say.

What exactly is a 'hidden object game'? I'll admit to being rather noob with my 10+ years on Steam, but the term is completely unknown to me. Define?

HOGs were my first gaming experience over at bigfish. And I thought they were challenging...yes I did. However, it didn't take long and I got bored and moved on.
I have no objection to Steam selling HOGs, but PLease label them as HOGs and have them in a separate category/genre.
HOGs ae a nice way to be introduced to gaming and many love them...as evidenced in bigfish's success. But I would be mighty upset to buy a game and discover it's a HOG, assuming I had not been aware it was a HOG.

It's one of those games that give you some sort of story through still images where you have to click on things to make things happen or to pick them up.

It's usually not obvious what you have to click on, so unless you use some hint system (which tends to not be available all the time) you end up clicking all over the screen to see if something happens. You might also get special scenes -- like clicking on a suitcase could open it, but instead of just giving you the shirt it might put your through another screen showing a rather untidy suitcase and giving you the task to find 10 specific objects.

There is also a "look for items to use" theme. A lot of things are broken or otherwise non-functional, so you need to find a bunch of other items first. For the most part, these games only accept very specific items to solve a puzzle, to the extent that sometimes you even have to use the "correct" source of water to fill an empty bottle.

Stuff you don't like != should not be on the store

A hidden object game is a game where there is a story and you must find clues to solve the mystery or move on in the story. There are actions to do and you will need objects to do these actions. While playing, a hidden object screen appears and there is a list of items you must find in that screen for you to use in order to move on. After finding all the items, the story/game continues.
Hope that I explained it well enough. :-)

Ninja'd...
Kargor did a far better job of explaining than I did.

This is not a case of me not wanting them on steam because I don't like them. It's a case of there being thousands and thousands of them that when the eventual flood happens it will change steam forever which could entirely be avoided by keeping them seperate in their own catalog so that people who want them can get them there and they don't have to wade through our games while we don't theirs. I'm sure hidden object fan's care less about the catalog of steam, and the feelings are completely mutual. There is no cause or sense in mixing the 2 as neither has any interest in each other.

What I don't want is a 1 : 1 ratio of one genre to everything else. It's a problem that can be easily avoided by simply keeping them seperate although in my personal opinion keep them where they belong which is not on steam at all but on bigfish games. That's where their fanbase is anyways. If they MUST release these "games" here, keep them seperate!

Thank you for the explanation. So point and click puzzles basically. Not sure why this is being presented so apocaliptically by the OP, but I understand now what is being refered to.

I support the request to be able to filter out certain types of games, but I would prefer this as part of a systematic solution for ALL types of games. Categories, or the tagging system, all have potential, as long as they give us as clients control over what shows up on the Steam store page.
