Orgin > Steam
One thing i like Origin over steam is their refund policy. You can return a game on Origin after 24 hours or if you never installed it you have 7 days to do so. I think that's great on their part.

As I said in the other thread:

Read the fine print. Origin only enforces that policy on games that they publish. Origin is much smaller than Steam, so it doesn't really make a difference there. But Steam sells many thousands of games, few of which are Valve-published.
Great, now go onto "Orgin" then. We don't need you here using a flamethrower.
I prefer the look of the Origin client more than anything else honestly, also something of a Qt fan.
It's because fanboys like you Spike that Valve will not change it's policy regarding refunds. It took me 10 emails to cancel my preorder on Thief and it took over 2 weeks for them to deposit the funds into my account. I'm just saying, Origin has some decent policy's regarding their refund that steam could learn from.

Steam's refund policy is exactly how it needs to be. If you don't like it, don't use it.

It could be improved.

I disagree. If Steam gave refunds for whatever reason, they'd go bankrupt in days. Many games nowadays can be beaten in less than 24 hours. What's to stop people beating games and then asking for a refund?
That's exactly what i'm saying, it could and should be improved. I can name you countless stores that refund on anything they sell and even various digital gaming websites that will refund you a purchase or give you credit for it. Steam is great, but it just needs a slight tweak in their policies to be outstanding.

Ok. What gaming site will allow me to buy, say, Skyrim, play it for twelve hours, after which I'm done with the game, and then return it for all of my money back?
Well with a simple check of their achievments you can tell if they did pass the game, if they did then don't give them anything. It only takes about 60 seconds to check that. However, forget that why not just give a refund on a game that has never been installed within 7 days? That seems reasonable don't you think?

Ok, assuming people don't use offline mode to play games, which cannot be monitored, who will pay for the refund? Valve? The publishers? Bill Gates?

I don't agree for any reason, just for technical ones or if there was a great deal of deception from the game publisher.

Steam refused to refund Fallout: NV when I bought it on launch, same with two friends in meat-space with Rome II. The games refused to work. I hear some people managed to get a refund for those games, but others did not and all I know I followed the procedure and instructions at the time.

To use Rome II as an example: There are currently 16,975 people playing it right now. Why should Valve issue refunds for things that works as described? A bad game is not a good reason for a refund.
As said, the Origin refund policy only applies to EA games. The Valve equivalent would only apply to Valve games.

The big difference here is that Valve has a crapton of 3rd party titles they sell as well, and if they introduced it people would start demanding it for those titles too, which is completely unreasonable.

Valve/Valve published games are generally good games, hyped games. I have no doubt Valve would have no problems having the same return policy as EA. The problem is the effect it would have on the store and the customers, who would make unreasonable demands as a result.

The same money that you paid Valve should be refunded, they won't lose a dime. Sure, they'll lose a sale but that game was not touched and neither did the customer or the company lose anything. As for the website, no i did not find one besides Origin that will refund you for a game after playing it but GMG, Amazon and gamersgate will refund you as long as you never downloaded the game. GMG is 7 days, Amazon and gamersgate is 14 days.
