I second that. It is a really free game (there are no DLCs or microtransactions involved) and is fun.

All of the other games I know of are not really free. You end up having to pay something in order to be able to progress in the game or to be competitive (eg. the free weapons aren't enough to get the job done, so you need to actually buy competitive weapons), or, in some cases, the base game (free) is very basic, and you have to buy all the DLCs for a truer experience.

Most of the F2P games involve microtransactions, which make them not actually free. Off the top of my head I can mention: Warframe, TF2, Dota2, Marvel Heroes, Super MNC, King's Bounty: Legions, and many, many others.

Piloting giant mechs vs another team and killing eachother. Tons of fun and it looks amazing too. If you're comparing it to previous games I'd say it's more "heavy Gear" in terms of the fast pacing than "Mechwarriors' more slower strategic pacing.

Just to clarify the game is F2P but they're doing an 'early access' thing before they officially launch so you'll see a $30 Early Access package right now. This kinda explains what's going on.

The game is going full F2P later in Q1 so you can wait if you want to try out the game later.

It's got 73 on Metacritic. Seriously you shouldn't get hung up on 'ratings'. When the game goes F2P later in Q1 just try it out. If you like mechs you likley won't be disappointed.
