So, what's with all the Anime avatars?

Not sure why that became so popular - I mean every second person on the Internet suddenly had an Anime avatar at one point, especially on Steam. And there are not even that many Manga style games on PC - that is actually more Console (especially Playstation) territory. I'm not judging by the way - I just find it to be an interesting trend which I don't understand in any way. Are Animes still that popular? Last real good one I've seen was Death Note and since then I felt that anime stuff is rather getting worse than better. Just my personal opinion, though - I'm propably just getting too old and grumpy ;) .

I'm more of a fan of western animation myself. Never have been big on anime, aside from the few things that everyone has seen. Doesn't mean I don't find it visually appealing, though.

Additionally, very few images can be used in Steam's tiny avatars that you can actually tell what it's supposed to be without having to hover over it.

My favorite anime are One Piece, Naruto Shippuden, Death Note, Dragonball Z, Fairy Tale, Gurren Lagaan, etc.

They're actually much better than people think they are.

:P I don't think anything is wrong with it. I guess there are many gamers who happen to like animes, including myself.
Of course anime is still popular. However, I have to admit. It's not as great as it used to be... although there are still some amazing titles that are keeping me interested.

I've never been particularly "Into" animé, I was one of those that had no real experience of any of it until 'Akira' "took the west by storm" (as certain media put it), it certainly had novely value and was something which was definitely going to grow as more encountered the style and cultural differences, but for me it wasn't anything amazing, just a little different.
That said, aside from a very rare, few single movies, such as "Grave Of The Fireflies" for example, I have very little interested in it overall.
