Origin and Steam
I for a while wished Origin would die off so that i could get hits like SimCity and Battlefield on Steam, but then I realized that this would lead to less competition and so higher prices. So i have changed my stance, I wish that steam games were available on origin, and Origin games on steam. This would solve the problems of exclusive platforms, and keep competition and low prices intact.

Just googling Titanfall sales figures and I can see that it had topped NPD rankings, beat EA's revenue forecast and still the top title on Origins.

I would wager most of mass effect 3's sales were on the consoles where Origin isn't an issue and you still didnt provide a single source about titanfall.

Some statement about it being better than forcast? revenue was down for EA, by a lot. Being top seller at a time there are no other AAA agmes for months? Must be selling well.

Titanfall is a game that 100% did not live up the the hype. Hype generated in the first place by EA paying lots of money to various websites.

No, really? You mean just like every other game with a PC and console port? Going by your logic, Steam must be doing a major disservice to the whole video games industry by existing... *facepalm*

you still didnt provide a single source about titanfall.

You're right, I didn't see you post evidence either for Titanfall. And you still haven't, lack of sales figures isn't the same as actual sales figures, NPD estimates are the best we have and they seem to think Titanfall sold pretty well from all accounts.

Being top seller at a time there are no other AAA agmes for months? Must be selling well. (sic)

When it beats the likes of annual guaranteed money makers like FIFA 2014, I think it must.

Seriously though, provide actual proof Origin is killing sales for EA or you haven't a case.

And they give out free games. And the software overall runs better. The amount of people that like Steam over Origin astounds me. I'm pretty sure they haven't even tried or even looked at Origin before.
It actually worries me the speed at which Origin is giving away stuff for free lately.
Gifting stuff is almost never done altrustically. It's a tactic to get people into your business (which steam doesn't really need to, since they're leading the race) it's also a non-returning investment (it's not assured those new customers will spend further money)

The speed in which Origin is pulling out "free stuff" stunts indicates two scenarios.
-Their userbase is below their business expectations. They NEED more users, at a rate they're willing to gift AAA titles to get people in.
-The shareholders are requiring 'moar money' and are forcing more aggressive tactics to up their userbase, in expectation of freeloaders spending eventually more money (DLC) . Even if that takes burning AAA titles by gifting them.

I've ended up having a nice opinion of Origin, but this later moves worry me and remind how easy EA has dumped previous projects.
True I guess.

You were the one who asserted Mass effect 3 sold a lot therefore people couldnt have that much of a problem with origin. I was just pointing out the huge, glaring hole in such a statement.

Oh and when a company like EA says nothing about it, wont even state the figures in its annual reports, it tells you everyting you need to know. 2 million was the figure NPD stated? Even if thats true (and NPD is hardly accurate) Thats chump change! Sim City sold that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ many in 2 months. I know because they announced when it broke 1 million then two million sales.

Titanfall must be a spectacular failure considering how much they must have paid for those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reviews and adverts on every site. They claimed it would revolutionise the FPS genre and the gaming world went "meh".

***Oh and Fifa was released 6 months before Titanfall, so you were wrong on that count too.

And you didn't take issue, because we both know it did.

No, you simply said you "heard" Titanfall did not sell well, on any platform. Even if true then, what does this say about Origins? Not much, exactly.

Oh and when a company like EA says nothing about it, wont even state the figures in its annual reports, it tells you everyting you need to know.

No, that would just be speculating from churnolists looking for a story, like I said, NPD estimates suggested Titanfall sold pretty well, you know what? I'll go with that.

2 million was the figure NPD stated? Thats chump change, sim city sold that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ many.

Which also means SimCity was a success, no?

Titanfall is must be a spectacular failure considering how much they must have paid for those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reviews and adverts on every site. They claimed it would revolutionise the FPS genre and the gaming world went "meh".

Maybe so, but we're not talking about quality of games here, but the viability of Origins as a platform for future EA sales, keep up Gareth.

Well I was disputing the quality and number of games sold. Dont know where you suddenly come from with your pathetic "arguments", but im aware people like you exist on the internet.

Regardless I think ive won here. Unless you think 2 million for a AAA+ game backed by one of the largest publishers, with a huge marketing campaign and 9/10 reviews across the board is "selling in huge numbers".

Yeah EA games are selling so well thier revenues are down this year. Titanfall sold so well a company that usually brags about measly sales is silent. A game that, when it was released coincided with PS4 extending its lead over xbox.

OK, sure, if it makes you feel better, sure you "won" this.

I see no issue with this, not to forget that the game was released in Q1 of a year with uncertain customers unsure if to continue to buy last-gen games or next gen. Is there a figure in your head that makes a game a success? How did you calculate this exactly? Is it a series of wild guessing and speculating? I think it is just that, isn't it?

And this is connected to Origins... how? In one post you agree, but now you change your mind. Gareth, I know you like to feel like you accomplished something for once in your life, but I prefer truth and facts. These games sold well from all accounts, revenue or not.

Where is your proof Origins is hurting EA, Gareth?
