Scammers using links of photos
Just recently I got a message on steam of a link regarding a picture of a knife. While not paying attention I clicked on it. It then redirected me to a google page, and whilst in the background it was downloading a file.. Mind you at the time I was using Steam on my phone. I was curious and scared so I straight away deleted the file on my phone and run a antivirus scanner (AVG) I also changed my password on steam via the computer, change email password regarding steam and also put my account on private (all) should my account be all right?

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ what a story
If you didn't run the file (as in double clicking on the downloaded file) or input your account details on a site you should be safe.
You did the right thing on running an AV check regardless and changing passwords.
(If all this happened on a phone it's most likely the virus couldn't even work, they're usually targeting computers)

Double check you don't have any missing items and report the user who sent you the link so Support can deal with him.

Thanks Tito, well i did go on my files on my phone (Samsung smartphone) and it was unable to open, so should be all right. Thanks for the reassurance
It's possible to post a link (with picture) to an item in your inventory, in chat.

So there's no reason to get an offsite picture of an item for trade.

If someone does this, and you're not sure whether they're scamming you, ask them to post the item link. Go to inventory, find the item, right click the item, click "copy link location", paste.

Example: http://steamcommunity.com/id/quintlindwurm/inventory/#440_2_3572485336

As for suspicious downloads, just set your browser to NOT automatically open any files you download, and ESPECIALLY not things like .EXE, .BAT, and .COM files.
