Do we own our games on Steam?
If we do, I want to archive them and be able to install without Steam in the future....if so, how?

My point still stands regardless, end of discussion.
I'm afraid they are correct. You don't technically own a game even if it is physical media.

GoG rules:
Can I share games with others?

Your account and games are for your personal use only. If you want to share them, you can always buy a gift for that person.

The DRM-free nature of our service means that we trust you that this will not be abused.

IF you ACTUALLY would OWN GoG Games.... they could not disallow that you share them. :D :D :D

The ONLY thing that GoG offers you is DRM FREE, doesnt mean you own them...
You are not reading it correctly. They "trust" you not to share them... its a legality they use to keep from being sued and could be considered piracy as they are the distribution of said DRM free games. You can DL them back them up with exe and use them anytime you wish... it is in fact your game! I just did it with a free game called The Beast Within. I checked it to be sure it would install and play correctly. All went well. Its my game, bruh...
It's also why most devs wont waste their time with gog and why its struggling to keep afloat.

Basically this. Even devs can't shut down games from early 2010s, 2000s and 90s since a good majority of folks still have physical copies and be able to play on their PS games (not including PS4 and PS5), Xbox OG and 360. Even old Nintendo games can be played on the Switch without too much trouble (though Nintendo is hard-pressed when it comes to their games being used as a livestream on Twitch or on YouTube).

You technically own the distribution medium (aka the disc itself) but not the content on it.

I'd advise just blocking him, tbh.

There is no need for that as I only give my fact comment. This discussion was on the top and I can't do about it.

There's a choice of just not commenting.

Already did. He just likes to follow me around and act like a white knight, not realizing that retro gaming is still popular to this day, no matter how niche it seems. Hell, 98% of physical games can still be played on old consoles without the need of internet, unlike games of today that forces people to rely on internet, even on single player-only games.
Oh I have many old consoles and games, it's best to not reply at all to blocked people.

No, I feel like this is very obvious but any digital game you've ever paid for, doesn't belong to you. Yes I also think that is shady as hell and we should own our games as we paid for them. So if Steam ever goes down then bye bye games we paid for

Except Valve already stated clearly that if the day ever comes where Steam would shut down (which is never going to happen, even if Valve would go bankrupt somehow), they would work on a way to let us access all the games we have on our accounts afterwards.

That's not up to Valve, they don't own the games, our licence agreements aren't with Valve.

Doesnt matter what DRM is used as long as Steam DRM gets cut out so we dont need Steam to start the Game...
While true, that still requires the game devs/publishers to agree to that.

Pretty sure they all already did with the Contract to sell the Game on Steam.
You'd be wrong in that.

Well... they don;'t really have to shut them down. those games likely came with some DRM on the discs. and they can always revioke the Cd-keys. which lockm you out of online features.

Steam doesn't require their DRM for games in the store. In fact, they actively say if you want better DRM you need to use your own.

And DRM is like locks on a door. Even if you have one lock. an extra lock and a couple deadbollts can't hurt.

Wouldn't be case anyway since many older games can still be played with no restrictions. And 80% of these games are not online either so they can still be played through local multi-player via split-screen or sharing the same screen in the case of GTA: San Andreas for both the PS2 and Xbox OG. Just ask PS1 and GameCube games. All of them have no online multiplayer and can still be played without any restrictions (with region lock from Japanese/European-exclusive games being the only minor thing int he way).
Actually, it does have some restrictions due to copyright policy for any non-online games. This also applicable to online multiplayer featured on video games.

That isn't true.
Unfortunately, it is true. Many old video games still have copyright protected, so it is only a license of each physical media.

It is indeed wise. You brought it on yourself, after all. And people can and will read your profile comments as well so again, nice try.

You know that wasn't what I was talking about.
It is about claimed that old games don't have restrictions which I knew it is not true.
