Ban Evasion
So, what's the point of banning people and moderation when they can just bypass bans and create another account to just keep right on posting again? Maybe apply the ban entirely to all alts and future accounts. Of course, someone will say "Erm akshually 🤓☝ you can't do that!".

Another reason why these forums honestly shouldn't exist. Too many loopholes and failures on their part.

Exactly. Therefore, bans are like a gun without bullets. Those who want can always create an alt and get away with it, because getting objective evidence is impossible.

If you are making secondary accounts in order to keep posting here when there are far better things to do in life I have to question that person's purpose in life.

All a temporary ban does for me is gives me more time to play the games I bought ... which is what I spend most of my time doing anyways.

There's nothing wrong with forums in general. It is people that ruin it. Why don't people ever get this?

Guns don't kill people ... people kill people. If guns didn't exist they'd use something else. Same basic logic for everything else in life.

The other side of the coin is that steam moderators are infamous for their meaningless and disproportionate application of ban policy. Steam moderators constantly ban well-meaning people for less-than-defensible reasons while letting shambling piles of vitriol sludge their way through the same forums. Steam moderators are untrained, unprofessional, and unethical.

So if you found yourself banned by one of these stooges, wouldn't you want to find a way around them?

While I generally agree that most reasonable people should completely avoid these forums, I have to chime in here and simply say that moderation can be abused and I have experienced it. It's frustrating and annoying, especially if you're enjoying talking to someone (which is supposed to be the purpose of these forums) and someone else just swoops in and reports something you said out of context.

This pretty much sums it up. I created an alt account so I could simply continue the conversation if this happens and I have been targeted by these people in the past.

If Steam isn't going to do anything to improve the situation then I think this is an acceptable workaround. Of course, it creates more accounts they'll have to moderate, but if they are going to do a 'by the numbers' approach to moderation instead of improving the quality of it then so be it and we should adapt to the system.

I'm not ban evading, I'm ban preventing. That's not against the rules. :)

Where does the TOS state that having multiple accounts is against the rules?

Is it not?

Your history of spamming, bypassing bans, and abusing the Steam Rules & Guidelines is well documented. We won't be removing any bans associated with that behavior.

Thanks, this is evidence it isn't against the rules. This says: Bypassing bans AND abusing rules. Which means bypassing bans isn't IN the rules.

Although, this appears to be written by some NPC who doesn't know what words mean. "Abusing the rules"?? Wtf does that mean? Oh no those poor rules, now they will have to undergo therapy and there will be anarchy here while they are gone.

Bypassing bans is ban evasion and you know what ban evasion is hence why you wrote:

Where did you even quote that from? It's not in the TOS.

The TOS (SSA) does not apply to the Discussion Rules and Guidelines nor Online Conduct.

It was provided by a poster who was doing exactly what is described and thought by posting it, it would prove moderation as being corrupt.

Note it states "bypassing bans" which they are aware of and recently did the following:

They nuked a particular poster's multiple accounts for infractions including ban evasion which is an unwritten rule, yet applied when needed. Note: The person in question created another alt and created a thread about it. That thread was also nuked.

As far as I know having multiple accounts isn't against Steam TOS thus calling it "ban evasion" is just a convenient excuse for further censorship.

I think we fight fire with fire. The moderators themselves are patently corrupt; why shouldn't their user base be as well? Who watches the watcher? Please, evade bans and tear down this house of cards. Make them rebuild it with some integrity.
