Perma bans = workshop bans Moderator please!
A question to moderators out there.

Apparently a perma ban from discussions blocks you from the majority of the community - including things like the following:

The workshop (for that game). You cannot upload or edit new/existing workshop items.

Cannot report posts.

Cannot post screenshots etc.

The question is, is it not possible to ban a user from the forums without blocking all the other access?

Apparently this was a recent-ish change, past year or more.

Would appreciate if a moderator could attest to this.

It is not new.

No offence, but as you are not a moderator I am not taking anything from your comments. You are only going by the guide, not what can actually be done.

I'm not going by any guide. 2018 isn't "new."

The discussion when it changed...

More specifically, a "moderator's" own post about it...

Valve isn't changing the status nor are they looking into changing it.

Your on ignore now, clearly trolling as you don't know that as fact. I'll wait for a moderator to comment, unless you can provide upto date proof or credentials.

It's a grossely unfair rule to stop people from using large parts of the game (especially the one in question where it's crucial) when the mods simply want to ban people from using forums.

But that's digressing - while I am sure it's right, it would be nice for a moderator to give a current status confirmation, and if it's going to be looked into.

Then those people shouldn't be trolling the forums. Getting a permanent ban takes quite a bit of effort. Unless a developer is trigger happy but that only happen when they are in full damage control when the game is bad.

So it's rather easy to not be permanently banned.

Valve isn't reversing the issue of what caused tons of spam and scams in game hubs.

You can ignore if you want.

I also find it odd that you and another user suddenly had the same exact question at the same time and posted it in this very specific forum.

i think this goes a bit too offtopic now - i want also like to have an official steam moderator to have a look at the main issue here - steam guidelines cant clearly answer that question - and to clarify again: this is NOT about Valve Anti Cheat

I already linked you to the other thread about it in post #9 and even a Global Moderator's post specifically.

Both of you have been given what you’ve asked for. A moderator reply AND a developers reply. You not liking the answer or how it works doesn’t change anything.

If you get banned in the forums, you get banned from the workshop and everything else.

No, a moderator isn’t going to “contact Valve” for you because you don’t like how the system works. Get over it.

Depending on which forums, it really doesn't. But quite apart from that, criticising developers doesn't mean someone should lose access to core parts of the game. If they their only transgression is on the forums, it's very unfair.

Even more unfair is steams lack of moderation. Basically these hubs are down to the developer, and steam pretty much never gets involved, despite how the developer or moderators act.

End result is that you have a hub which is run by the developer - and if they are hands off moderators. Who are not subject to any answering authority. We all know steam only steps in if proof can be given of something really dire, i.e. blatent racisim etc.

And I know I'll get the 'well that's the way it is and you can't do anything about it you shouldnt have been a naughty boy', but that doesn't change the fact the setup is patently unfair and subject to massive bias.

FWIW I don't play the game anymore, part of my 'crime' was linking to the developers own support portal and pointing out the bugs which hadn't been fixed for literally years (the ones that eventually spoiled my enjoyment of the game).

But many others are now being banned. And I'd still like up to date information from someone who can check.

still not official verified so the question is still valid
so i would be kind id we can stop cycling around a global moderators post ending with "...i think" is not an official validation of that issue

And there you have it, banned and wanting to complain. So you don’t like the punishment, that’s unfortunate, but it’s how Steam wants it to work. That’s all there is to it. Don’t like it, don’t post on the forums - especially if you can’t play nice and are prone to racking up bans.

This thread, and the other one by your (assumed) friend, aren’t looking for what you’re actually asking for; they’re to complain about how the system works. It’s not going to change.

MR. B why are you breaking the rules on forums by being hostile?

THis is a PUBLIC forum.
You made a public post.
You cannot complain that only a moderator can reply.
IT is literally against hte rules.

Why the heck are you being rude and hostile to people for no reason?
Literally, it's part of the rules.

Ignoring people for telling the truth is not also allowed and kills your credibility.
Hotsauce knows what he is talking about.
He linked moderators and devs explaining things.

You cannot force a dev or a moderator to post in this thread.
No one has that kind of power.
So, stop abusing a public forum being public.
Thank you, and good day.

Please re-read what I have said.

I've not 'forced' anyone to do anything, I've requested information.

I've asked someone to stop posting as their comments are useless to me for reasons I've said - they didn't, so I have not been rude, I simply put them on ignore. Same as that other user, as they are simply looking to antagonise.

Hotsauce has been more ignorant - I asked him not to comment if he's not a moderator - as quite simply, he can only go on historical information and I'd like someone to check uptodate. I said this several times, and yet his 'not recent' comment is ruder and sarcastic, something I haven't been.

I'm afraid I won't be baited into being rude or whatever, I shall merely wait for an answer. If none is forthcoming, the thread will simply die.

sorry, if you dislike the threads title but getting personal is not the answer just 2 person having a question to get answered.

if one having an issue and starting a thread while another person is messing with the same issue is a normal forum action.

please dont ruin this or the other thread by getting "personal"

You're not being baited here. You're just being someone who cannot accept the truth. Period. Your own actions in this thread prove that.
None of his comments are even remotely sarcastic and rude. You literally cannot claim they are that way without destroying the definition of the words sarcastic and rude.

Uh, M.Red, you cannot claim that person is being personal

But I am being baited.
Escrito originalmente por davidb11:
You're breaking the rules still by claiming he is not allowed to post here. And putting him on ignore is an abuse of the ignore system. Which is minor.

I have never said anything about anyone being allowed to post. Your claiming something very different to what I said.

Saying I am abusing the ignore system is quite honestly, a lie which I suspect is to provoke. Ignore can be use however you want - it has no impact at all on the other person. It's function is to stop harrassment, and reduce confrontation and argument in the forums.

Again, I've been nothing but reasonable but it appears some want to twist my words and state I'm doing things when I am not.

You requested information, got that information, got upset and defensive (because you disagree with your ban and its effects on your account) and are now playing the passive aggression game. Even if a mod wasted their time repeating the same information you’ve been linked, you’ll plug your ears and shout that it’s not listed in official information pages. Who cares if it’s listed there? That’s how it works. Obviously you would know considering you’ve seen first hand how it works.

You’ve been given the information you asked for. I can only imagine now that it’s not what you like to hear and you’re going to continue trolling so I’m out. Happy travels.
