Can I use my American Express Prepaid gift card for Steam under these conditions

I have a prepaid american express gift card. I don't have a valid credit card hooked up to my steam account though. Also I'm not really sure how to enter my credit into my Steam account because there isn't a place for experiation date, etc that would be on a normal credit card...

Anyone have any advice.

It's been years since I used one of those on Steam, so I don't remember how to handle the apparent lack of expiration date. But I know it's possible.

I do not suggest using pre-paid debit cards. In addition to being a ripoff they also have trouble on some internet sites like Steam. Due to the high amount of attempted credit card fraud on Steam, they take a couple extra measures to verify the billing name and info that you submit is the same that the card issuer has on file. Since prepaid cards don't have that info by default purchases can often fail. Most card companies will allow you to contact the number on the back of the card for you to attach your billing info to the card.

In all honesty, your best bet would really be to just go to a local store and use the AmEx to buy a Steam gift card if that is an option for you.

No you just buy it at the store, they activate it, you click on games at the top of Steam then select redeem wallet code or something similar, enter the code, then you should see the gift card amount added to your wallet next to your account name at the top right of steam. Then you are good to go to buy whatever you want no other payment method required.

Do you mean they activate it at the store or I have to go online and have it activated myself or something. It sounds a bit like the way iTunes gift cards work

Both. The card has no value until it is purchased which is usually the activation method too. Then you redeem the code to your account similar to an iTunes gift card.
