So many bad games?

So.. why does steam have so many bad games and so many ones with terrible reviews?

I mean a couple years ago steam was amazing and most of the games here were great, but now it seems that the indie scene is taking over, i'm all for indie games but there should be a bit of quality control =/

Granted its about taste.. But i've noticed recently so many games on here are just bad to mediocre in most peoples eyes.

It seems anyone with a game can be like lets go to steam and sell it at a crazy price!
Its just lowering the bar for the indie scene =/

If you ask me I believe after a game has enough bad reviews it should be taken down from steam pending a review from one of their officals, that way when i try look for a new game i don't have to sift through all the junk to find something good!

I understand steam can't make good games pop up outta nowhere, but i'm talking about doing something to get rid of all these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ games that are just filling up my homescreen.. I mean why the hell is stuff like infestation survivor stories (previously known as WarZ) still here??

Hell, i'd go through all the flagged games personally and remove them to help fellow gamers find their good games easier!

I think the major issue is seeing a game you'd have to have blind faith in be posted emboldened in full or laughable discounts standing next to large production titles that are 40-90 percent off. With honest reviewers telling you the game could only be 6 hours if all you want to do is see the end.

Don't mistake me, I don't really mind, but if people are trying to get their money's worth. They'd be looking for the best deal. And greenlight may defer the task of making Indie developers sink to their knees to give the dedicated supporters opportunity to grab an experience with their game with the loyalty of say... Minecraft. Who offered the game and all future content to pioneer supporters for very little. So what we see is Indie games at commercial prices, and I cannot blame anyone for being upset as they are sometimes also incomplete.

You don't have steam to blame. You have people who know how hard it is to create these things to. People having different expectations to Indie games vs commercial games though the price is comparable. I'd say separate them, but I think people will miss chances and the Indie games will be locked to bundles and probably make little money. Though people who are trying to get their money's worth already do this.

By and large the conversion rates for demos, even in the hey day, was total and utter garbage. Its certainly even worse now and by and large not worth the dev cycles. Demos generally only have ubiquity if your gameplay is so uttelry esoteric that you need one (Stanley Parable) but this is by and large the exception, not the rule. as you stated LP videos have by and large replaced the need for demos.

Well, I look at it this way...Valve is a business and a business is in it for the money. So nothin wrong with that. Many of the games I like, some of my friends wouldn't even consider and vice-versa. I like Action, I'm not the Diner Dash type. Can't please everybody, so steam needs a variety. I personally would not buy an early access, but that's my preference. However, I do have friends that do buy them and enjoy them. I'm sure that if steam wasn't making money on a game, we wouldn't see it here. Just MHO...
