Is steam.exe virus?
I did a total virus scan for all startup programs as usual today. And It detected steam.exe as a virus... What to do???

Found a quick solution on the internet for it.
1. remove steam from autostart
2. add steam to the whitelist

1. To remove autostart:-
open this in Regedit:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and just remove entry for steam from there.
This also speeds up booting time for the low-end system.(Hope you know what it means, coz I don't.)

2. to add to whitelist:-
Open windows security> virus and threat protection> manage settings > add or remove exclusions
click on add an exclusion> folder
Select a steam directory and click select a folder...

DONE!!!

This will stop others from detecting steam as a virus...

Hope this helps. :)

You can set steam in the steam settings to not start with computer. And or at login maybe?

Whitelisting something in windows 10 antivirus does not white list on any other antivirus on virustotal.

Also after removing autostart, My IT guy is OK with steam.
I am not sure i see what was accomplished by removing it from autostart.

But i think, nothing else we can do here.

If clam av is the only programm that finds something generic,
i would not call it a virus finding.

I don't know how those av things work but, my IT guy says "1 security vendor flagged this file as malicious" is NotOK to keep. So He removed steam from the system.
Virustotal.com only shows you the results from the first time it was scanned it doesn't scan the file you uploaded. As i just did it and it says clam av detected a trojan and i know for 100% fact that my pc is free from viruses. So i wouldn't believe them results as it's not showing you your file results but the results when it was first tested which could be a few days to a week to a month or years.

My test said this file was tested 2 days ago.

Your IT guy is either an idiot, or he thinks YOU are an idiot, or he simply doesn't care. Most likely all of those things. And him removing steam is understandable, don't think you're supposed to play games at work. So that's your own problem.

Thanks for your opinion of telling me: "Playing games at work is not ok."

As I mentioned here

How do we contact steam support?
As this steam community site looks pointless as everyone is just coming in and firing their own opinion and going with no help... I wonder if anyone else tried testing their steam as I mentioned. just pointless talk...

How to contact the steam support team?

Really, Thanks very much

No it doesn't just show you the first test, it usually asks if you want to test again, and even if it doesn't, you can test it again by clicking an icon on the results page.

Thats fine, better safe than sorry.

But then you should ask that IT guy, if their security is based on being late to a threat. Only if an antivirus finds something, you react? Is that secure?

Anyway, as a private user, when an antivirus finds something generic,
or even finds something "real" specific, but i know its not a malware by the source,
i contact the antivirus company and let them check for a false positive.

If 99% of antivirus do not see anything, and i know the file is from a secure source, i maybe just ignore it completely.

I think, if someone really wants and is able to ship a malware with steam, they make sure that
clam av
does not find it and ruins that situation.
But i think they are rather worried about others.
Also, epic games is working well, then why only steam getting virus report... Arent they both does the same thing.

I was saying in general that it don't actually scan the file you uploaded. It reads the m5 hash and gives you the results. But it's not the results of the file you just uploaded though. Your file could be safe but the results will show it's infected because someone with an infected file uploaded it before you so you get their results.

If it did scan your file it would say last scanned a moment ago instead it shows last scanned 2 minutes ago or 2 weeks ago etc.

People have been offering you help, explaining that Steam is perfectly safe and that you are getting a false positive. Why are you refusing to accept it?

Just the answer I was looking for, It solved everything. Thanks

Because he's mad he can't be lazy at work because the IT guy removed his steam... So he complains and makes drama. :feelscry:

End of the story, close the tread.
