They did a very good job and you won't be missing on a whole lot by skipping the OG tbh.
Considering there were only several, and not hundreds or thousands, you may just as well play them all.
But then again, I am not sure what you are trying to get out of it, or are trying to do with it.
Obviously, you should already know what you want to do, and have a plan, otherwise you may just as well do nothing.
Otherwise playing just Black Mesa is a great experience on it's own.
