Knucklehead games in my Discovery Queue
Did I miss the memo...where have all the good games gone? I see tons of games in my Discovery Queue that at best look like some college kid's final project. Seems we are going through a gaming drought, or games being made just suck, or ??? Missing a good MMO and maybe another game with the depth and breadth of Baldur's Gate 3. I didn't mess with any trigger content there and enjoyed it up until I got into the city. Anyone find any gems lately that I missed?

There is definitely a "drought" and there has been for years. Probably even a decade. But even this said, I seriously doubt it has anything to do with Steam or your discovery queue. More than likely, you simply suffer from the exact same problem as everybody else: you already got all the good games and only a handful of games can even pretend to reach the level of "gem status" every year.

Last time I checked we were still halfway thru the year. Publishers tend to publish games at advantageous dates, which explain why they are often all launching at similar moments in the year. I'm sure at least one other very good game is going to show up by the end of this year.

There's no gaming drought, the Discovery Queue is just a terrible way to look for new games. The only time it shows me interesting games, I already found those games a month or two ago.

So, just out of curiosity, HOW MANY games have you looked at in your DQ? If you keep that up you are bound to only find stuff you don't like because, surprise, not everything is made for you personally.

It's a bit like the recommend section of youtube lots of stuff you'll probably not interested in

The discovery queue will only ever show each game once, so if you pass by a game you might have liked, you're not going to be shown it again by the discovery queue.

I personally like to rely on recommendations from people I have similar tastes to who play video games as a job on YouTube or Twitch or whatever.

Can you give us a complete list of games you have seen, so we can know what you missed?

I have not seen a drought. Maybe you are just following certain developers.

Weird, for such a "drought" I've seen plenty of good games every year.

Why try harder? People love to buy all the Early Access trash etc
So why make a good and polished game? lol

I don't. I only look at finished games.

Still, a game can be both -- it can start as Early Access, and then get finished eventually.

Not going to flood this with a complete list of games I have seen but currently I am 15k+ games viewed through the Discovery Queue with 688 ignored, following many more, and I own 226 games. Early on I was trying to do my best to ignore or wishlist games as they showed up in the queue. Now I just ignore the abysmally bad imo. Eagle_Of_Fire probably said it best, "More than likely, you simply suffer from the exact same problem as everybody else: you already got all the good games and only a handful of games can even pretend to reach the level of "gem status" every year."

Games,Music,Movies are all suffering the same fate right now. When pc gaming first started, if a game added grass to a fps map it was an instant hit. Nothing new is coming to these games along with the flood of new games doing the same exact thing as each other. Every movie idea has been put out there. Every guitar rift has been played.
