Why is every major singleplayer game in 2024 blatant porn?
[PREFACE] This includes content related to sexual harassment/exploitation, minor endangerment, suicide, and other related issues that may be disturbing to some readers. Please use your own discretion to proceed.

Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, take your pick of almost any Bethesda game where mods are considered a necessity...

I can already hear the overweight fedora tilters pounding their mayonnaise Cheeto dusted fingers of fury on their crusted keyboards, but let's actually give it some deeper thought; what is this doing to the population at large?

https://steamdb.info/charts/?sort=24h

I'm gonna start on a heavy note, and it's going to be about suicide statistics specifically in Canada. This is your warning about the sensitive topics I'm getting into.

Suicide rates are approximately 3 times higher among men compared to women

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth and young adults (15-34 years)

Young women, aged 10-19, are hospitalized for suicide attempts at a rate of 187 per capita compared to young men at rate of 43 per capita. Why are young women being hospitalized at approximately 4 times the rate of men? Is it possible that the media we are collectively exposed to is ruining our expectations of life and control? I would argue that it is.

What does this have to do with porn? It has to do with the fact that megacorps are selling you pre-packaged lives that give you faux-happiness opposed to real life experiences that are fulfilling in their own right. Why bother gambling on the fear of rejection, when you have a pre-packaged girlfriend that worships you despite being an objective piece of ♥♥♥♥?

The number of Canadians living alone increased to its greatest share since Confederation and was the most common type of household in the country in 2016, representing 28.2 percent of all households in Canada.

That is an increase from 25.7 per cent in 2001. Fully 13.9 percent of the Canadian adult population now lives alone. That figure stood at just 1.8 per cent in 1951.

A more comprehensive study conducted by the non-profit Angus Reid Institute provides insights into social isolation and loneliness in Canada. The study categorizes Canadians into five groups based on their social connections and satisfaction:

The Desolate (23%): These individuals experience both social isolation and loneliness.
The Lonely but not Isolated (10%): They feel lonely despite having some social connections.
The Isolated but not Lonely (15%): These people lack social connections but don’t necessarily feel lonely.
The Moderately Connected (31%): They have moderate social connections.
The Cherished (22%): This group enjoys healthy social connections and doesn’t suffer from loneliness or isolation.

Social Media:
Usage: In 2018, about 9 in 10 Canadians aged 15 to 34 regularly used social media, with slightly lower usage among older age groups.
Negative Effects: Common outcomes attributed to social media use include lost sleep, trouble concentrating, less physical activity, anxiety, depression, envy, and frustration. Younger individuals report these effects more frequently than older ones.
Impact: Social media can affect mental well-being and sleep patterns, but it also provides opportunities for connection and information sharing.

Pornography:
Legislation: A Senate bill aims to make it harder for minors to access pornography online by requiring age verification. The bill addresses concerns about addiction, gender stereotypes, and harmful effects on youth.
Online Child Sexual Exploitation: Canada faces challenges related to online child sexual exploitation, including child sexual abuse material, sexting, grooming, and live streaming. Efforts are ongoing to combat this issue.

Interactive Sexual Content:
Online Child Sexual Exploitation: The industry has grown, and efforts are being made to protect children from harmful content. The number of Canadians working from home increased during the pandemic, which may have implications for online safety.
Impact: Research shows that viewing violent, sexually explicit material can lead to mental health issues and sexual dysfunction.

Videogames:
Economic Impact: Canada’s video game industry has grown significantly, contributing billions to the GDP. It is considered pandemic-resistant.
Employment: The industry supports over 55,000 full-time equivalents (FTEs) of employment. Larger companies employing over 100 people account for most FTEs.
Workforce: The industry has seen growth in junior and intermediate employees, with an average FTE salary increase.

Employment Rates:
The employment rate in Canada fluctuates but has generally increased over time. As of March 2024, it stands at 61.4%.

The Curses: Displacement and Inequality

Job Displacement:
As AI takes center stage, certain jobs face extinction. Routine tasks- whether on assembly lines, in call centers, or behind cash registers- fall prey to automation.
The curse lies in displacement: What happens to the displaced workers? How do we transition them to new roles?

Skill Divide Widens:
AI favors those with specialized skills- data scientists, machine learning engineers, and AI ethicists. Meanwhile, low-skilled workers grapple with uncertainty.
The curse lies in inequality: The digital divide widens, leaving some behind.

Existential Questions:
What defines us when machines perform our tasks? How do we find purpose beyond productivity?
The curse lies in existential uncertainty: We grapple with identity and meaning.

So, when we face a future that’s dictated by rampant megacorporation automation in order to sell you false realities, will we still collectively give a ♥♥♥♥ about what’s real, or lose ourselves in the grasp of a happiness that never existed in the first place? I don’t know. But what I do know is that if we’re to correct the course, it must happen now and not later.

So you have 2 whole games as examples. 2 games.
Ah yes that is clearly a majority of the major games being released.

Canadian people doing badly is not because of games, but because of economy itself.
Not gone waste a jester on this hogwash.

Welcome, Fedora Tilter #1

If you read any of it, the focus is on the para-social nature of videogames now in general. Even innocent games like Stardew Valley are inherently a dating simulator.

I left the https://steamdb.info/charts/?sort=24h link to ward off stupid people like you, but I see it doesn't really work when I assume people will read. Most of the singleplayer titles with the highest 24hr peak of concurrent players have nudity/sexual-content in them- there's too many to list, so I referenced the link.

I've looked there and "most" is a huge stretch. I would say some at best. Also some of them doesn't have it at all, unless heavily modded.

And the amount in those that have it is pretty much redundant for gameplay.

I address this specifically in my Bethesda games statement. Do you really think the majority of the concurrent players are playing the vanilla experience? That'd be naive at best. Most of them play modded, and there's obviously no way to predict what percentage of players use x mods, but there's a clear way to tell by the most downloaded mods respective to each game. Sex/nudity whatever kink you're into is never below the top 100 most downloaded. Pick a game. Fallout, Skyrim, etcetera my point still stands.

Have you heard about rule 34? Of course there will always be someone creating adult mods. That doesn't mean it's the problem with games, nor that it's a problem at all.

And if you can't say what % of users use mods/adult mods, why are you saying "most" of them does?

If all you're gonna do is strawman, I have no interest talking to you.

I don't have an issue with porn. I'll use a euphemism.

Water is vital to your health. Water is good for you. Too much water kills you via water intoxication. Any substance, medium, etc. is no different.

My issue is with 1/5 Canadians self-admitting they're entirely alone. This is clearly a proponent of it.

Go look at Skyrim, Fallout, Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077's Steam Artwork hub. This is just within the last week- how long do you have to scroll before it's porn? Not very.

It's becoming standard, and if the death of real-world socializing doesn't worry you, that's exactly why you'll be a victim of mega-corporations. They're no longer selling you products- they're selling you your "life."

I disagree with such an authoritarian approach, but I would be okay with an age-gate. However, how do you enforce it without government ID for example? Too many privacy concerns with that, but the alternative is exposing children to all of this stuff. Banning it outright would just lead to prohibitions with alcohol for example.

The solution lies within open and honest dialogue about it, because as we've already seen, the people here would rather continue living in their manufactured fantasies than reality. Does that say more about reality, or the manufactured fantasies? Introspection is needed, and it seems it's been lost in the plot. Maybe if IRL stuff wasn't so objectively ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ATM (cost of living, other anti-social phenomenon, AI job displacement) people would be motivated to participate instead of exclusively indulge in escapism. Can't say I blame them, but I wish people understood why the average intelligence is plummeting like a bowling ball from the Empire State Building.

People aren't stupid, but their heads are being filled with nonsense at best. Why is it that most people can't tell you how a fridge works? A microwave? Their plumbing? Their car's engine? (yes, you can google it, and yes, you missed the point if that was your response)

For example people who played Skyrim can recite the dialogue from that game and practically replay it in their minds- but they couldn't accurately label more than 10 countries on a map if their lives depended on it. We've gotten to a point where people collectively know more about ♥♥♥♥ that doesn't even exist compared to things that do

why do you disagree with an effective solution over some generations that will be only thing aviable and no one would likely even bother to check for such dangerous content but the fact is reality exists ppl will always use something to escape before games it was movies wich was the culprit before that comics before than books the issue is its easier to point finger on something its also partly education system fault to teach someone anything you gotta get them intrested but most teachers just treat like a list the easy solution remove the distractions but when they find something else and sadly the issue is reality sucks most ppl have their dreams crushed early for yeah society cant have only winners my advice to those its better to not have any dreams at all

Because it's ineffective; the same ignorant parents use their ID's to purchase the same inappropriate games for their kids. For example, as a kid, plenty of my friends played games like Call of Duty or GTA games. It's not like the kids themselves bought those titles. That's why I think the solution is open and honest dialogue- educating the people who are otherwise ignorant, or don't care what they're exposing children to.

I don't think there's a way to enforce an age-gate without a camera pointing at the player- which is obviously dystopian... The parents that do care have tools at their disposal to restrict access to X games if they so choose. The issue predominantly is that they don't care.

just remove the content for all instead of gate if they cant acces it or buy it when they cant obtain it will it stop bullying nope bullying existed before gaming movies and comics and books and will always exist

Do you know what strawman means? Because you yourself said that you can't check how many people use mods, but most of them does.

I know that porn abuse can cause problems. And I know loeliness can be harmful. But calling every game "blatant porn" because some people use adult mods is a stretch. Calling games, that have tiny amount of sexual content "blatant porn" is a stretch. Pushing all canadian problems on porn is a stretch.
