If the post adds new, relevant information and the discussion can continue, then the age of the thread doesn't really matter (not a necro)
If the post bumping the thread, after the discussion has died, adds nothing then that's a necro.
it's an imaginary thing invented by forum trolls who don't have a life outside that forum.
spam is a thing, don't do that.
bumping is a thing, don't do that.
when people say nerco, they mean one of those two, but focus on the thread age and disregard the content.
steam forums simultaneously:
encourage people to use the search
have a dreadful search tool
punish you for replying to a thread you find with the search tool
punish you for making a new thread if a similar one was made before
also no one wants to click a thread and find that its something from 2012/ect... with people asking questions to people who may possibly not even be using that account anymore or steam in general, or info thats irrelevant in the current date, ect..
i think those things should be auto locked after like 6 months of no comments (which saves users, moderators time not dealing with it), but thats me and according to the poster above, we are trolls for not liking threads resurrected for no reason.
"shrugs"
and sadly people forgot how to use a forum
an "old" information or thread doesn't mean obsolete. but these ridic mods or simple users are just better bots so yeah.
Guess I am wrong?
The search function is there, and not just on steam. But I guess this relates to two other issues like "being seen" for no apparent reason.
What boggles the mind is people who start digging for years or even decade old threads ON PURPOSE. Is this what lead pipes does to people or what?
@Qbert it's part of the problem.
The last task for the Community badge was to post on the forums, which led to huge spam.
They replaced that task for, "search the Steam discussions." This leads to a bunch of necros because people just assume that they also should post in said necro for it to register as completed.
"Posting for Steam Badge do not exist anymore."

Getting users to engage with the community these ways created a monster.
Don't get me started on the task to review a game for the Community badge or the many store events Valve held over the years that also had a task to review games you just played, leading to more review spam, just to get a badge.
reviews here are horrible, nothing but spam inflating scores/ratings.
And mods don't merge threads or reopen em because they arent really mods and/or rely on some trash forum backend.
then they can go further and make it something like 3 consecutive new replies by unique users within a week of the last post causes a bump
Like 2 Weeks ago they closed a Thread that has multiple posts a Day, merely because the Thread was started about 9 Months ago, the last 3 posts at the Time the Copy&Paste&Lock was handed out, were less than 5 hours old.
