Helldivers 2 moderation team has some of the worst moderators of any community I've seen

We've had:
- multiple threads discussing which terminid (insect, if you haven't played the game) is the most "breedable" (as in players want to have sex with it)
- users say that if the game has LGBT capes then they're intentionally going to teamkill and harass those players
- threads demanding "straight pride capes"
- users spend hours claiming they were "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" and entertaining themselves by trolling the steam forums
- threads calling the developers idiots and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with nothing constructive

And what's in common with all these? Absolutely unmoderated. The threads stay open for days when people are telling people to "♥♥♥" and leaving comments like "LGBTKYS". The users remain unbanned or have only a 24 hours ban before they reopen the exact same topic.

Me? I caught a ban for:
Here's another super naive clown farmer.
That's too bad. Its' really easy to see the niche for Quasar and its negatives.... unless you're obviously clown farming

How? How does this violate anything?

I guess the lesson learned here is straight pride bug sexing harassment and suggestions of self harm for protected groups is okay, but suggesting someone is being carried is "harassment and abuse".

I have never seen this on steam before. Over in other games there are plenty of the politiking nonsense threads but to have the steam moderators of this community spend their team NOT closing bugsex threads and allowing people to suggest self harm FOR DAYS is ridiculous.

We need new moderators that actually know and uphold rules on steam forums like:
- Threats or encouragement of harm
- Trolling or baiting arguments
- Discrimination
- Re-posting closed, modified or deleted content
- Derailing a discussion or topic
- Bumping threads
- Encouraging or facilitating real-world violence
- Spamming

I expect this to remain open for an entire week and devolve into in-depth suggestions of which NPC to breed - in a very non-hentai/adult themed game.

Far too many people think Starship Troopers isnt a parody. The source book is full on American pro-military fanaticism. But like most of Voerhoven's movies in the 80s, he took one look at that and went "American's are so weird" and basically put a mirror to the book and took a dump on it.

The original source material is pretty heavy handed but arguably was not meant as a book promoting actual political practice. Heinlein did not necessarily have any aligning thoughts he published at any other time.

However, when Verhoeven was pulled into the Starship Troopers movie, he immediately said the book was boring and crap. So he "fixed" it to be parody. It is parody.

You can look up Verhoven's take on the whole thing - keeping in mind he would have experienced real world fascism while growing up. Also keep in mind that this is the same guy responsible for Robocop where they named all of the police officers after serial killers and illustrated the corruption.

Verhoven is certainly not a fascist pushing fascist propaganda. People are misguided.

But either way even if it was somehow a fascist game it doesn't explain why the lack of moderation in that community allows bugsex and ♥♥♥ topics but applies steam rules to "this is a clown farm"

helldiver 2 devs/mods, had already been banning the stuff and it kept getting spammed, they likely gave up.

pubg has the same issue currently, with someone using a ton of alt accounts, to spam necro very old threads, and the pubg forum had an issue like that years ago as well, but with alt accounts used to spam and fill pages with text (text was in chinese), selling cheats.

they also spammed voice coms in pubg selling cheats.

in the end, its not easy to stop... the pubg forum thing went on for a month or so and Vmods couldnt keep up with it, though it did eventually get solved.

just ignore it and play the game.

steams paid mods wont be able to keep up, even with helldivers 2 mods helping.

Sure. I can imagine that's a miserable task.
But explain how "clown farm" is something that should consume time and resources when "♥♥♥" is not.

We just had a content drop so it was kind of worth seeing what people thought. It, of course, devolved into "this is OP, that is OP, stealth nerf" blah blah blah. The thread I replied to was literally "this is going to be nerfed to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ground" - how "clown farm" carries more weight than politiking and bugsex blows my mind.

It's not a matter of not having time or energy to close threads unless they're somehow just playing roulette with tickets.

If so then it's a matter of attrition so that just enforces people should just go spam as many tickets as possible.... which is not great. That's horrible.

Surely even the automod can figure out "LGBTIAKYS" is far more offensive than "clown farm". I don't even know how this junk makes it into the steam forums. Surely Google or OpenAI or Microsoft or even @#$! grok can figure that out.

Nah, I got "caught" for saying a thread was a clown farm - which happens over there every 10 minutes with no random bans. There are threads like "X should be nerfed/buff" and instantly 30 people respond with "clown farm". Still not sure how that is against steam rules...

Moderation team is super on top of things. Part of me really believes it was because I reported each of the bug banging topics. Must've annoyed a moderator more than seeing the forum used for bug breeding.

Any popular game will have steam point farmers , it's inevitable. Moderation is a hit or miss depending on the game.

Dunno what you read but this is pretty egregious.
Both instances of whackydoodleness are just entirely irrelevant to the game and clog up the forums. Then it escalates to self harm and threats.

That's a bit above and beyond. I know how that works. It shouldn't be this way on Steam forums.

The HD2 hub in its entirety is a good example of how poor the moderation is currently. Every news update gets the same few people spamming offtopic junk to farm awards. I look at the anticheat section a lot since I'm one of the people holding off on buying it until it gets changed and its a wreck. There's been one problematic user in particular who just necro'd literally eight pages of threads the other day with unhelpful short posts, usually boiling down to some form of "It works for me so there's clearly no issue" and somehow despite Valve's paid mods locking a few threads for necros the actual user isn't punished at all and multiple pages of their necros remain up. This is on top of this same user previously ban evading on an alt account and consistently goading people into offtopic arguments. Genuinely feels like they've given up on moderating the board at all.

First: Helldivers 2 is a great game. You do kind of have to do some PUG stuff but if you have at least one friend you will have a great time. The anticheat is lame and I doubt they're going to remove it any time soon - not sure if you've heard but even right now there are users showing up with infinite grenades, infinite in-game items, unreleased mechs and weapons, etc.

If they're steam volunteers, employees, or related to Arrow Head the posts have gotten to peak cringe that are obvious violations of Steam rules. I saw someone banned for calling a thread "childish" (literally the word they used) and I used "clown farm" - I don't think anyone should be banned for either one but you can go find 75 posts using the same words.

Insults, encouraging harm, trolling and baiting, discrimination toward protected groups, bypass word or content filters, ... all of these are the guidelines and you can find instances within the first few topics. They're necroed obvious bait from days ago. The problem, according to the mods, is apparently "childish" and "clown farm".

On other game forums it's not like this at all. Sure, over in The Finals people want to argue that the characters aren't sexy enough - fine. I mean that's very silly but sure. It's a real topic, I guess. No one gets banned for "clown farm". Helldivers 2? Bugsex wins, "childish" loses.
