It was like the super bowl commercials but for game nerds.
Sonic after the genesis are terrible and overrated
EA and ubi connect are terrible services / launchers
the new alone in the dark was terrible
south park snow day I would not wipe my backside on
souls games are cr*p because lack story
fortnight is WAY overrated
COD is super overrated and peaked with modern warfare ( 360 )
mobile gaming is not gaming its desperation
they should raise pc system requirements and stop making games for potatoes
pc are the master race!!
anyone who play game=gamer,no matter what platform
new ones usually are terribly optimised and have to rely on garbage like DLSS/FSR and have no soul in the game itself, look at the recent COD games, all copy paste
Now, obviously, some big studios have decided their paid games would have these after-purchase "features", but if you download a free game that isn't foss and open source, then you are absolutely gonna get some form of monetization every single time.
Oftentimes, it is better to pay for a MMO monthly rather than play one that is free, since that doesn't come without a cost. They still need money to pay for their expenses, including server maintenance and electricity bills.
Part of the issue, and why it is a controversial take, is that "gaming" is a subculture (like nerds, goths & emos, furries, weeaboos & otakus, and sports fans), hence "gamers" have set values for what constitutes a gamer. So, in short, if you don't fit into their set values you don't deserve the label in their mind, and there are many factors playing into that, but the "gamers" themselves figured out that mobile players at large weren't gamers because they are, let's say, too mundane and out of touch for them.
I'd say anyone who plays mobile games can be a gamer, granted they don't exclusively play casual games like Candy Crush Saga. For example, if they play Minecraft, Brawl Stars or Fortnite they'd qualify in my book, but again I know people have different standards for what a gamer is or isn't.
Best portrayed by this Akechi impersonator on YouTube.

I can't recount how many times I've heard some nutcase with a fragile ego claiming something to the effect that people who only ever played indie games/farming games/fangames over the latest AAA titles weren't real gamers.
hot take 1:
sci-fi, video games and all the things that were once part of an innocent nerd culture haven't been for a very long time. your favorite franchises have been bought/sold like bad debt. they are exploited to the limit. they know people have mental health/addiction issues and love to abuse that for more money.
a lot of people with lives that revolve around gaming should be prioritizing other more important things first. maybe come back to gaming later
hot take 2:
VR feels more like "old" gaming due to the novelty and $$ barrier to entry. vibes to anyone who still hasn't gotten into VR in the year of our lord, 2024.
The GTA games have mediocre gameplay at best, often with terrible shooting and driving controls and 90% of the reason they are so succesfull is because they appeal to the teenage " i want to be a gangsta!" crowd and look nice because of their giant budget.
But yes, a large percentage of the GTA series' audience consists of teens and young adults who think that anything with guns, violence or swearing is 'cool' and 'adult', despite violent video games existing ever since the late 70s.
