I didn't hate GTA V, but I didn't love it. I loved GTA IV. One of the best games from the PS3/360 era. GTA V seemed "meh" to me. The characters were annoying. The dialogue was horribly written. I bought it on release, beat it (2013), and never played it again.
Souls-like
A couple AAA games are overrated and aimed at average consumers - they look good while everything else is mid at best.
But the rest of the game? Utterly pedestrian. From the get-go, you can practically smell the moniker "Tumblr's darling" oozing from every pixel.
Abysmal graphics that would send even an NES console into an existential crisis; humor that vacillates between "dim-witted" and "Well... that was utterly devoid of amusement," dubious gameplay mechanics, tedious gameplay loops, and underlying messages about ... whatever it is they're attempting to convey.
You know, I can't even wrap my head around why I despise this game so much. I've given it three shots, and each time it's like... meh, just not vibing with it. Yet, bizarrely, it's hailed by the press like the second coming of digital messiahs, and hoards of players are all aboard the hype train. What gives, man?
At its pinnacle, it's a solid 6, maybe flirting with a generous 7 on a good day. But at its nadir, it's scraping the bottom of the barrel, barely clinging onto a feeble 4.
I don't think you tried deltarune?
For me, GTA peaked with Vice City and it was all downhill from there.
cyberpunk 2077 for not having a clue where their content really comes from and being depressing.
skyrim for having way less than oblivion but being touted as the better variant.
deep rock galactic for having a jerk as their community manager.
What helped GTA back then was its shock value. I can't think of any games that were like it. It sold on shock value. A game where YOU are the criminal? It was one of those games that made Fox News screech.
Nowadays, violent games are much more numerous. GTA can't sell on that alone. Maybe the formula has gone stale and they need to revamp it. IMO other games do it better, such as Saints Row which plays up how corny the concept is.
I disagree. Morrowind and Oblivion haven't aged well. Their game mechanics are outdated. They aren't fun to play. Skyrim focused on better combat and it has stood the test of time. It's been almost 13 years and you can still enjoy it. You're entitled to you view, though. There are those that prefer the original Fallouts before FO3.
There is a reason you always hear people praising things like Oblivion's Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood quests, but Skyrim only ever gets praised for its modding scene.
