Noone would play Old School RuneScape if you could just use a savegame profile and instantly be max 99 stats. It would not be worth the effort. I only play games where I feel I am getting progress made, progress that can't otherwise be cheated on. It's just a waste of time to play singleplayer games, at least when I play Guild Wars 2 or CS2 I get stats and progress that can't otherwise be done faster.
Also, some people do enjoy achievement hunting (not me personally), so just because they can use SAM, doesn't mean they want to.
Lastly, online leaderboards can 100% be abused by people exploiting/cheating. You're kidding yourself to think otherwise.
In Prince of Persia, just download a 100% savegame. In Assassin's Creed, do the same or use a save editor. What is the worth of your little personal savegame if there is an instant way of unlocking everything.
At least in NFS 2015 and other such games you can never trick the system and unlock everything because it's an online game. That's why I play Guild Wars 2 and CS2 and other such popular games because the progression represents your time invested and gives you digital inventory wealth or fancy ranks to show off.
Would anyone even play Foxhole if there were no ranks and no levels... Singleplayer games are for story and cutscenes only, which is why I'm watching them on YouTube and not playing myself. We don't get any good singleplayer games anymore anyway.
Back then we had Rayman 2&3, Assassin's Creed 1, Prince of Persia Trilogy, NFS III Hot Pursuit, Madworld, Zelda Twilight Princess, Zelda Minish Cap. Such quality games don't exist anymore, I can't think of any. Super Mario Galaxy and Madworld are the newest ones I know.
I would rather spend my time on Guild Wars 2 or even Old School RuneScape and know that I am getting digital progress, I am increasing the worth of my own account, even if I'm never going to sell it, at least I'm doing something. If you take a game like Wreckfest or Deep Rock Galactic for example, why even play that game? Why waste your time with either of these games if you can literally download a savegame and be max level 100 in Wreckfest or level 9 million something in Deep Rock Galactic with all unlocked? I only like to play games that give me some kind of progress otherwise unattainable through cheap methods.
Or just get over it.
What does the ability to download a save game have to do with you playing and progressing in a singleplayer game by yourself? Sure, the option is available. The option is available to cheat in an online game and ruin progression for yourself and others as well, doesn't mean you have to (or should) do it.
1. I think one of the worst things to happen to online gaming was stat tracking/ranks. It's great on paper, but it forces people to play a certain way instead of playing for the fun of it like we used to.
2. I hardly think DOOM (as one example) is worth playing for the story, you play it for the gameplay. Same as the Hitman games. As another, different example, Baldurs Gate 3 is a game you play to make your own story, watching it on Youtube doesn't do it any justice.
Just because you clearly don't play games for personal gratification/enjoyment, it doesn't mean that you are the majority. In fact, you are an extremely small minority on this one.
