Always online grind games?
Hello.

I like games that require you to be always online such as Need For Speed 2015 because that means the grind is worth something. For example, in Deep Rock Galactic you can literally download a savegame from the internet and instantly be level 9 million something with everything unlocked which basically means if you play the game for real, there is nothing to strive for, no real grind.

For the same reason I don't play Payback, Heat, Unbound because you can use a savegame and eliminate the entire grind. You can do the same in Wreckfest, I believe many people use that level 100 savegame from the internet and why shouldn't they. It's the developers fault for making progress savegame based and not saving it on their server like NFS 2015. (These pesky people hating on "always online" for NFS 2015 are just left behind stone age people, I have absolutely no problems with the connection and neither does anyone else. Go waste 1000s of hours on Heat or Unbound where anyone can skip the entire grind by downloading a file lol.)

Does anyone know any always online games of any genre where you can unlock stuff or get level ups, ranks or inventory? These are the ones that I know of:

- Guild Wars 2
- EverQuest Project 1999
- Old School RuneScape
- Tibia
- NFS 2015
- NFS World SBRW
- TF2
- CS2
- Dota 2
- TrackMania United Forever
- Foxhole
- Tower Unite
- A.V.A Global
- PlanetSide 2
- BattleBit Remastered
- Verdun / Tannenberg / Isonzo
- HALO Master Chief Collection

Does anyone know any more such games where the grind is fun and worth doing? If you can just use a savegame then it's a pointless grind. Imagine spending 2000 hours on a multiplayer like DRG and your friend downloads a savegame and has more unlocked than your personal savefile.

Maybe for some of you who wasted their lives playing singleplayer games hunting for useless achievements it's hard to understand, but I don't see the point in playing a game that doesn't give me any progress at all.

For the same reason I don't play any singleplayer games anymore, because not only are they boring, you can just watch the entire game on YouTube so what's the point. It's not like devs have any good singleplayer game stories / ideas anymore, it's all heavily worn out, that's why most people play online games. (evidence: God of War, Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry)

I'm simply looking for more games where you play the game and it feels rewarding by giving you higher ranks or more inventory wealth because that is exactly what's fun to me. I think many people like Old School RuneScape for this reason but I'm looking for something a little more engaging and fun.

I get what you mean op, but it's personal progression like reading a book and ticking it off your list. If you don't enjoy them it's fine, but ultimately it's the same thing in the end. You can watch all of those games on youtube and see the content likely, so it's like an even faster cheat where I get to see the content faster than you can earn it or cheat it, and don't waste my time grinding for it, buying the game, etc...

I do think always online or live service games are a little interesting though, there is a sense of feeling like you made progress in online, as opposed to something like death strandings ranked components where you're playing against a bunch of cheaters and you get bumped off, then you feel like your efforts were ultimately worthless.
Yeah finally, you're the first guy to get what I mean. I just think it feels pointless to play Deep Rock Galactic or Wreckfest and such games when you can just download a 100% savegame. There is no online save function. That is exactly why I like games such as NFS 2015 where it saves your progress to the developer servers, so there is no way to hax it.

Noone would play Old School RuneScape if you could just use a savegame profile and instantly be max 99 stats. It would not be worth the effort. I only play games where I feel I am getting progress made, progress that can't otherwise be cheated on. It's just a waste of time to play singleplayer games, at least when I play Guild Wars 2 or CS2 I get stats and progress that can't otherwise be done faster.

And then the servers get shut down and all that work was for nothing. Meanwhile, I can load up an old save for countless singleplayer games and maintain my progression. Just because you CAN download a save for a game online, doesn't negate the achievement of actually doing it yourself.

Also, some people do enjoy achievement hunting (not me personally), so just because they can use SAM, doesn't mean they want to.

Lastly, online leaderboards can 100% be abused by people exploiting/cheating. You're kidding yourself to think otherwise.

How do you maintain progression in a singleplayer game? What progression do you speak of?

In Prince of Persia, just download a 100% savegame. In Assassin's Creed, do the same or use a save editor. What is the worth of your little personal savegame if there is an instant way of unlocking everything.

At least in NFS 2015 and other such games you can never trick the system and unlock everything because it's an online game. That's why I play Guild Wars 2 and CS2 and other such popular games because the progression represents your time invested and gives you digital inventory wealth or fancy ranks to show off.

Would anyone even play Foxhole if there were no ranks and no levels... Singleplayer games are for story and cutscenes only, which is why I'm watching them on YouTube and not playing myself. We don't get any good singleplayer games anymore anyway.

Back then we had Rayman 2&3, Assassin's Creed 1, Prince of Persia Trilogy, NFS III Hot Pursuit, Madworld, Zelda Twilight Princess, Zelda Minish Cap. Such quality games don't exist anymore, I can't think of any. Super Mario Galaxy and Madworld are the newest ones I know.

When you start thinking like you do then what's the point? Maybe you should consider stopping playing PC games altogether. Problem solved.

Well I have to do something right? I can't just workout and train the entire weekend, half of it must be spent on something else such as videogames or reading. I just feel like singleplayer games nowadays are a total waste of time. Anyone who's played Assassin's Creed 1 knows all the other ACs are trash everyone who's played other gems such as Prince of Persia trilogy, or Rayman 2 and 3, or Zelda Twilight Princess or Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 and these masterpieces, knows that good singleplayer games are almost non-existent now.

I would rather spend my time on Guild Wars 2 or even Old School RuneScape and know that I am getting digital progress, I am increasing the worth of my own account, even if I'm never going to sell it, at least I'm doing something. If you take a game like Wreckfest or Deep Rock Galactic for example, why even play that game? Why waste your time with either of these games if you can literally download a savegame and be max level 100 in Wreckfest or level 9 million something in Deep Rock Galactic with all unlocked? I only like to play games that give me some kind of progress otherwise unattainable through cheap methods.

That's a you problem. Work on it instead of bothering people about non-existant "existing save on the internet" problems.

Or just get over it.

And if there's a good singleplayer game I then just watch all the cutscenes on YouTube and save a lot of time. The gameplay can't be more fun than a multiplayer online game anyway. I think the final singleplayer game that I 100% completed was that Lego Star Wars game on my Wii. It was fun but it's pointless.

Did I hit a nerve? Come to the dark side and play only multiplayer games. We have better gameplay and better rewards.

What does the ability to download a save game have to do with you playing and progressing in a singleplayer game by yourself? Sure, the option is available. The option is available to cheat in an online game and ruin progression for yourself and others as well, doesn't mean you have to (or should) do it.

1. I think one of the worst things to happen to online gaming was stat tracking/ranks. It's great on paper, but it forces people to play a certain way instead of playing for the fun of it like we used to.

2. I hardly think DOOM (as one example) is worth playing for the story, you play it for the gameplay. Same as the Hitman games. As another, different example, Baldurs Gate 3 is a game you play to make your own story, watching it on Youtube doesn't do it any justice.

Just because you clearly don't play games for personal gratification/enjoyment, it doesn't mean that you are the majority. In fact, you are an extremely small minority on this one.
