Short answer is no, long answer is depends on circumstances.
Some being the amount you travel , long trips on a plane train or automobile , even relaxing in bed at night to play a game next to a loved one, for the cost it's not excessive and not going to break the piggy bank.
On a user level it can be frustrating when it doesn't work, requires some hours and fiddling to function and update, and issues with battery life can be bothersome.
But if you look at it as a novelty it is a neat concept. So if you want one get one. It's like a laptop in you hands, or a tablet .
If you buying it as a powerhouse gaming device. That's not what it is, if you like nostalgia example older games and the genre then it's worth it.
I would buy the "ROG Ally" or a "Lenovo Legion Go", only if you could natively install SteamOS.
The battery life is pretty bad though, after about an hour to 90 minutes of AAA gaming the battery needs to be recharged.
But with some clock tinkering and game settings you can get around 2-3 hours in games that are not too demanding. Also i mainly play on the couch or in bed with a power outlet right next to me so its never really a issue.
Plus the Rog just running plain Windows 11 is a huge bonus for installing different games and programs.
Everything that runs on Windows 11 runs on the Rog which is something you dont get with Steam OS that has a ton of incompatible games.
So far i am very happy with the Rog Ally.
You mean the thing that
A: has not been implemented yet
B: only works on advanced chip sets that less then 1% of users currently have
C: you simply can opt out off?
Yeah, i think i will survive.
Good then that neither the Steam Deck or any of the other handhelds we talking about are consoles but are fully functional PC.
False. That's funny cause I have been using the Steam Deck without internet and I haven't had to be online all the time just to use it. That description fits the PlayStation Portal however! I've been emulating games and running PC games just fine!
Steam Deck is not a console, its a portable computer Linux operating system.
I have a feeling this might be a console fanboy spreading misinformation on purpose because their exclusives are being ported to PC.
I agree, Win11 is so slow and broken compared to Linux, but not all PC ports work on Linux. I despise Windows, the bloatware ruins the games I want to play, that's what made me buy a Steam Deck.
