Hacked accounts: Accounts are not hacked, they're phished, as Neo already mentioned. Don't allow yourself to be phished and you'll have no problem.
Connection issues: Probably depends on you, your connection, your hardware, your network you location, etc. I live way out in the middle of damn nowhere with a sketchy line-of-sight wireless Internet connection and my connectivity is just fine.
Mobile app sucks: Probably subjective. It's fine for my purposes anyway. I mainly just use it for Steam Guard.
People impersonating others: See the first point. Don't get phished. Being careful who you add to your friends list is just good sense. Personally, if I've never met you in person, I don't want you on my friends list, but that's just me.
needless bans/moderation issues: Well, there's probably a discussion here, but generally it's pretty simple. If you don't break the rules, you don't get banned. Simple as. The paid moderation team does seem to lack any personal stake in the health and wellbeing of the community though, and they usually take moderation action without considering context.
Support issues: Support is great if what you are asking is actually within the scope of what they're able to handle. Generally, the philosophy here is that you have all the tools you need to support yourself, and you should very rarely, if ever need to contact support. I think I've opened a support ticket only 2-3 times in the 20 years I've used Steam, and each time I was satisfied with the support I received.
True what said on connection issues, but yesterday site was acting weird before an error came up stating that was not available, try again later. Yet, this is new account, so maybe was something they working on in setting up the account. Today it seems fine, but am watching for any other potential issues as get familiar with the platform.
Why use mobile app to use Steam Guard, it not work here? Have it on, and seems to be working fine.
Impersonating others and phishing most likely are connected together, but people make friends in games they play, should not need to get a background check to add someone to a friends list, then again maybe do as some people are great actors and liars over the internet, lol to me that is a people problem with no easy answers on platforms like this one.
Perhaps Steam needs to revamp how their moderators are doing their job, as their are getting paid for it. Skim reading and hitting a button to what think they read without seriously thinking about the issue or how their decision could have consequences is not good. If their shorthanded is why it happens, maybe need to hire more help.
So support is limited in what they can support, got it. Hope you right on that, as have a knack of things not going right when they should, and 90% of the time is not me but the software, server, ect having hiccups as work with it. So am positive will be contacting them, lol
There is indeed a lot of trolling, negativity, and victim mentality going around here. It seems to come with the territory whenever any community gets big and expands beyond it's "core" demographic. I've been on the Internet since the 90s, and I've seen it happen a lot. A smaller community is tighter knit and easier to moderate. Any community has a certain percentage of bad eggs in it, and in a big community this can mean more bad eggs, and those bad eggs can overwhelm the conversation and spoil the entire vibe of an otherwise good community, even if they're a small minority.
Just be careful of selection bias. People with complaints are much more likely to voice them than people without, and there are a lot of people who are just fine with no complaints. Unlike some other game distribution platforms, Steam at least allows people to discuss things, and they provide the means to do so. This is the biggest and most successful PC game distribution platform for a reason.
Do understand what you saying, Haruspex, sometime solutions are not easy, like you have been around a long time and have seen probably same as you. Yet think it time for companies to deal with bad apples, as have seen companies close up from doing nothing, and though bad apples maybe a minority, they have potential of driving the good people away for various reasons, and it happens over time, not overnight.
Is great Steam allows the community to discuss things, and is expected that everyone will have their own thoughts, ideas, opinions, and experiences, and selective bias comes with it, unfortunately. Way look at that is by digging for answers myself and forming data that proves or disproves it, and move on. Only way get caught up in doing that is if something is at stake in what it being said.
Is this the biggest and most successful PC game distribution platform because of how Valve has put it together, with all the tools will need to be successful, and the gaming community to go with that? If so, then think made right choice in being here verses going MS way:)
This is called "sarcasm".
Whole industry is making changes really, some of it a mess, and waiting for dust to settle some. My goal was to be strictly mobile, but Apple has put a wench in that, so looking to span out in other areas. Even considering creating own marketplace, but not on a serious note as of yet.
No, was not really being sarcastic, was looking for more insight into what he said, though can see how could be taken that way. Like to hear points of view when others say things like he did, and try understanding if can.
he was being sarcastic, steam is the most popular store on pc so it's best to put your things here even if you don't care for it 100%
