how long does it take for steam keys to expire

so before I knew what Steam was dumb 6-year-old me bought a Steam key for Lego Batman 2 and now years later I went into my Amazon game library it was still there AND IT WORKED so when do they expire if they do at all?

They don't for the most part unless a Dev specifically sets them to expire. So far I've only seen one example of a non-redeemed key expiring, it was Fallout 76 which I got from Humble Bundle, the key was set to expire so it couldn't just be held onto and traded/resold later on down the road.

Redeemed keys don't expire either usually unless it's like a social media key for review channels ,etc. However, Devs can revoke keys at their whim if a key is abused in some fashion.

yeah I thought thats how it would work just I redeemed it so long after so I thought there was no way but I guess there is a way and I have lego batman 2 now so what more can a man want

A couple years ago I bought a key for Fable 3 despite it having been off Steam market for YEARS, and it worked.

Keep in mind, buying keys from unofficial retailers...you take risks that if you get a bad key or scammed, Steam isn't going to help.

thats why I have not gotten a steam key in a while I just resort to sailing the seas if I need a game that is delisted

Would advise against talking about piracy on the forums, against the ToS. However yeah..keys for delisted games can get pricey.

Keys can't be reused, so they'd definitely be scamming someone.
