Where's the line?
I had my profile pic yanked again this past week.

I have defended the image once before and the appeal overturned the unjust removal. I continued to use the image for the last few years (since pre-Covid) without issue. This time my appeal is denied without explanation. This action also barred me from changing my profile for a week. Am I accumulating strikes against my account over this? I would like to know. What is far more irritating is the lack of answers I get from Steam as to where the actual line is. You encourage Steam users to be self-expressive, but when I am, your ambiguous guidelines land me in hot water. Repeatedly pointing to your guidelines and saying "well, we were offended" does not provide me explanation.

I would appreciate it if someone from Steam read my closed tickets and gave me an unbiased answer. So far, I have received "copypasta" from someone who seemed irritated to do their job. I wasn't trolling when I asked if it was fine for me to use a different iteration of the same image doctored in Photoshop to be (I'd imagine) "less offensive", then attached and sent back in the ticket. I was told further tickets would be ignored about the issue so I am making this post.

In addition to my inquiry, I played another Counter-Strike 2 comp match last night where I was called homophobic and racial slurs by the same exact players I reported over a week ago (for the very same slurs). I provided explanation in the report and offered screenshots. I didn't hear back about any of that. So my current takeaway is that humorous imagery of an overweight man in lingerie (no nudity or sexual acts depicted) playing an outdated V.R system is unacceptable yet racism is? I suggest you start handing out bans for this constant barrage of classless bigotry in your online games and clean this cesspool of a community up a little bit. (In Counter-Strike 2 we all click the same green button agreeing to guidelines before comp matches but it seems you don't enforce them)

In 19 years of owning this Steam account, I've only had two issues with Steam moderators. Both have been this image and it does not depict anything graphic or sexual in nature. I feel like we're avoiding real issues and attacking nonsense here. AITA?

The boilerplate you received is the answer.

I experienced it firsthand when I sent a ticket to support a week ago.

I won't mention the specific issue because it's unrelated, but I'll just say that I asked them, "1+1=?" and they responded with "3+4=7."

Thanks to a thread from a frustrated poster who was upset with support for not reading their ticket and instead sending a copy-pasted answer, similar to what you mentioned above, I realize it.

Every manual ticket is indeed read by a real human. If the answer is not what you are looking for, no matter how odd/seemingly unrelated reply you get, it is their way of saying 'no.' :eatyourbroccoli:

There are sites you can use with a quick google to see people's previous used avatars and similar profile changes.
You're right. I found them here: https://steamid.uk/profile/76561197967451662

Scroll down the page to see "Avatar History". Their most recent one is on the right. .. we have to sign in through steam but anyway it's there. I see why their previous profile picture was reported too.
Yeah, unless the OP specifically says that's his avatar, which no one WOULD EVER MAKE, there is no real evidence.
And having to sign in there is a no go for me.

No.. it's not giving away your steam account information, it's harmless. Thousands of sites do the "sign in through steam" thing, like GOG does to see our steam wish list for example. And yes it is them. It's their Steam UID # that matches their profile. It actually is them. Our UID #'s are unique to every steam account and that's their #.

No, I understand it's a legit site.
It's just I've misplaced my password information.
So, I'd have to do a lot of looking around for where I stored it.
Which is a lot of work to do for one little thing.

This happened to me when I appealed on the weekend of after US business hours.

I got a ban for "off-topic posting" for using an on-topic analogy. I appealed and explained how analogies work, and how it actually did apply to the topic. I got back a copy pasted response of "applied correctly."

So, I waited until Monday morning (US time), and I opened a proper ticket for it. The ban was reversed, and it was even removed from my record.

Hop this helps.

Thousands of sites do it, and millions of users get their accounts hijacked as a result.

I admit, I didn't read every comment here. I'd be curious to know what your pfp was. Steam allows A LOT of images of sexualized cartoon children. There's entire animated backgrounds showing them dancing and countless anime/loli/whatever the word du jour is profile pictures.

It's practically a utopia for burgeoning pedophiles.
Postat inițial de Rivers:
Imagine if a millennial woman, unmarried, with blue hair looked at your picture. Then ask yourself, would she like this? Thats how you will know if your profile content is offensive or not.

So basically, stop breathing or better yet stop existing and you won't offend anyone?

Nice.

That's because Lolicon and Shotacon are not illegal in the United States, I believe. 🤔

Huh, good one.

Guess their avatar got wiped, judging by the "?".
Makes me wonder if my Avatar could also be considered offensive.

Perhaps her hair is too red, or her face too pale, or her eyes too green, or the background too white.

Gotta be careful nowadays or you get cancelled.

Yeah, and that wasn't the first time.

On the other hand, I have reported groups with coke on their avatar but that seems to be fine...

I believe it's called "Priorities". 😁

Step 1 ) stop breaking the rules

Step 2 ) refer to step 1
We have lots of rules that people in power gladly destroy if it benefits them or just don't follow for their own amusement and steam is no exception despite how hard you want to believe steam and it's staff are infallible. You're at the mercy of someone else who at the end of the day has their own beliefs and political stances.
