Where's the line?
I had my profile pic yanked again this past week.

I have defended the image once before and the appeal overturned the unjust removal. I continued to use the image for the last few years (since pre-Covid) without issue. This time my appeal is denied without explanation. This action also barred me from changing my profile for a week. Am I accumulating strikes against my account over this? I would like to know. What is far more irritating is the lack of answers I get from Steam as to where the actual line is. You encourage Steam users to be self-expressive, but when I am, your ambiguous guidelines land me in hot water. Repeatedly pointing to your guidelines and saying "well, we were offended" does not provide me explanation.

I would appreciate it if someone from Steam read my closed tickets and gave me an unbiased answer. So far, I have received "copypasta" from someone who seemed irritated to do their job. I wasn't trolling when I asked if it was fine for me to use a different iteration of the same image doctored in Photoshop to be (I'd imagine) "less offensive", then attached and sent back in the ticket. I was told further tickets would be ignored about the issue so I am making this post.

In addition to my inquiry, I played another Counter-Strike 2 comp match last night where I was called homophobic and racial slurs by the same exact players I reported over a week ago (for the very same slurs). I provided explanation in the report and offered screenshots. I didn't hear back about any of that. So my current takeaway is that humorous imagery of an overweight man in lingerie (no nudity or sexual acts depicted) playing an outdated V.R system is unacceptable yet racism is? I suggest you start handing out bans for this constant barrage of classless bigotry in your online games and clean this cesspool of a community up a little bit. (In Counter-Strike 2 we all click the same green button agreeing to guidelines before comp matches but it seems you don't enforce them)

In 19 years of owning this Steam account, I've only had two issues with Steam moderators. Both have been this image and it does not depict anything graphic or sexual in nature. I feel like we're avoiding real issues and attacking nonsense here. AITA?

The boilerplate you received is the answer.

I experienced it firsthand when I sent a ticket to support a week ago.

I won't mention the specific issue because it's unrelated, but I'll just say that I asked them, "1+1=?" and they responded with "3+4=7."

Thanks to a thread from a frustrated poster who was upset with support for not reading their ticket and instead sending a copy-pasted answer, similar to what you mentioned above, I realize it.

Every manual ticket is indeed read by a real human. If the answer is not what you are looking for, no matter how odd/seemingly unrelated reply you get, it is their way of saying 'no.' :eatyourbroccoli:

Imagine if a millennial woman, unmarried, with blue hair looked at your picture. Then ask yourself, would she like this? Thats how you will know if your profile content is offensive or not.

How can someone who's not a millennial know what a millennial think? And it get worse and worse the further down the gen chain you go. But I still have a lot of faith in Alpha.

I really think at this point in time everything you do here is going to be scrutinized by some of the other people here regardless of your birth status. Fact is some people are just looking for excuses to put the ban-hammer on someone else ... especially those who don't just sheeple along with their ideals/beliefs.

Example: my brother and I were playing Dark Age of Csmelot on a Role Playing server and he named his friar character Umble Stumbles. Some people didn't take too kindly to it as they didn't believe it was a name for a RP server and tried to get him banned.

The people at Mythic told him all he had to do was come up with a backstory for the name. Who would have thought after watching all the versions of Robin Hood out there that all Friars didn't drink? He certainly did. So he wrote a backstory and it was OK'ed by them.

Not surprisingly the attempts at getting him banned didn't stop even after all that. Eventually his friar got the ban hammer again. That was the last day we ever played DAoC.

Had it happen in Everquest as well ... but when they named the guild *The Short Bus* eventually I knew that wasn't going to fly. I was surprised myself it lasted as long as it did seeing as I had an Aunt who was handicapped.

Some people just can't keep themselves out of other peoples business.

At this point in time I really have to believe (since I can't see it myself and judge it) that it was possibly offensive to someone. Be thankful it was only your profile pic. Could have been worse.

Well, it's important to keep in mind that sometimes content may be removed even though no rules were broken. Do you know Tanoomba?

I decided to help you by making sure to file a report for your offensive profile picture. Which by the way: What you are using right now is very offensive.

Explain how without sounding fatphobic and intolerant. You're exactly my point. You claim offended for the sake of creating difficulty for me. The worst part of this community. Acting like this to prevent others from expressing themselves. You are pathetic.

I don't have to explain myself to you or anyone else. I find your picture very offensive. Also personally, in my opinion, I don't think a profile picture like that has any business being on steam at all. So I reported it. That's the end of it.
He has no profile picture right now, and there is no way you reported his other profile picture, because no matter what it was, no one admits that. LOL.

Seriously, what was the avatar that got banned?

I should of taken a screenshot. It was a naked overweight person sitting in a chair with nothing on but a red sash that said "STEAM" on it.
Yeah, that never happened.
Nice try though.
He can't even change his Avatar for a week.
And he wouldn't have used an overweight person ever in an avatar.
No one does that.
LOL.

There are sites you can use with a quick google to see people's previous used avatars and similar profile changes.
