Keep in mind that it's a marketing ploy. The hype around Red Dead 2 died of now and rumours about GTA6 have been around the last weeks, so giving away GTA5 now provides Rockstar with a new surge of attention on their company and titles. It's all about staying relevant.
Epic also can use the attention, of course.
Anyways I just let you know that enjoy the free stuff, join groups, or forums that does post updates of free stuff, and snag them up quick before you miss them. I gotten at least above 300+ free games on Steam alone, but this from Dev/publishers not to confuse you, about upwards of 20 from Ubisoft on Uplay, several from Origin, one from Discord, couple from GoG, and bunch from Epic. Basically joining groups helps making it real easy to see what give aways you can snag for free.
But end of the day, we're all sticking to using certain platforms we prefer as well for our own convenience, if we can get the games we want, even if means waiting for it to come onto that platform.
Most of the problems revolving around gta 5 came from Take Two, TT got antsy at the modding community and have been forcing Rockstars hands in a lot of instances
Lol, no.
Since steam library update others dont look that bad anymore though.
Surely to reach a huge audience like steam you definetly need to giveaway tons of free games for years. And it is not even guaranteed. I am wondering for how long they are planning to do this.
Not really. That’s not how Valve got to where they are now.
The only reason Epic is doing what they are doing is to ensure that their stock remains high so share prices don't decline which impacts the value of the company. Fortnite's success wont be around for ever so they needed something that could mitigate any future losses of income so using their newfound wealth to create a storefront is something that could keep value up and a high level of money coming in. Right now their burn rate is insane just to get a basic foothold in the market.
Steam came in at the right time and led by example with Valve's expertise and innovation. Epic are just looking to ensure their pockets remain consistently lined in the future whereby their share value doesn't sink and holders cash out.

Citation for what?. Epic do indeed earn more money than Valve from Unreal Engine, Easy Anti Cheat, Cubic Motion, Quixel, Fortnite & Rocket League.
Just this month, I discovered a handsome competitor. After knowing them for only two weeks, they've given me four free games now. One of them is an A-list game, GTA5. The premium edition! With promises to provide another free title once per week on average. They have Mechwarrior 5, you don't, and it only cost me $25 even though it released last December. They even threw in Vampyre for only $5 when you've only offered it for $15. Don't you want me?
Steam. What's happened to our relationship? I'd say you don't bring me flowers anymore, but other than that one time, you never did. I really want our relationship to continue, but I'm simply not feeling the love. You haven't been trying very hard and I'm thinking we may need to take a break for a while. If you want to call me, I'll be at my mothers.
In the past month around a dozen games have been given away for free here.
Lego Ninjago movie is free right this very second.
Tomb Raider, Shogun 2 were both free.
But feel free to go talk about EGS on their forums.
I love Steam. I wouldn't remain a customer after nearly 10 years if I didn't love Steam. Was that not clear? Did the stabs at humor go over your head?
I didn't mention any competitor by name. You did that. And if I didn't cite examples, then a wiseguy like you would have complained that proof was not given.
Steam may have made games available for free. Clearly I wasn't aware about it. Isn't that my point? Shouldn't Steam make it obvious which games they are offering for free right on the main page or in a pop-up ad or both instead of waiting to see if their users can find them on their own?
This is a suggestion forum. Where posit ideas that would make Steam a better place. I'm doing that. All you bring to the table are insults. You are not helping. Why not instead post your tips how you stay on top of this topic instead of being a keyboard commando?
It must be hard to google anything if the forums are what we measure it by.
Also, if you didn't notice you got moved as it wasn't a suggestion.
