Free games
How come Epic Games manages to provide pretty good free games and Steam proposes only games that nobody knows? Being in the business since September 12, 2003 they can surely afford this.

They want the numbers for data and control, they can pay low ammount of money to indie devs to give the game for free they wont run out.

Indie devs? Bruh, they're giving GTA V, Civ 6, etc. Wym lol

Im saying once they got the player base they dont need to invest in big ones.

edit: forgot to put this

This business model is not sustainable. Most of their customer base is there only for free games. If fortnite loses its popularity which it will eventually do and epic keep on handing out free games, they will go belly up in no time.

I dont trust that launcher. Something is not right there
I don't see the fuss, to be honest. They're old games now.

I doubt this'll hurt Steam in any way, just as the past year and a half hasn't actually hurt Steam. Epic is carving a place in the market, but it doesn't really seem to be cutting that piece away from Steam. I'd be more curious how Origin and GoG are doing right now, I think they're the actual ones losing out here.

I've heard Origin is losing traction since the Steam deal, no reason to purchase anything on their mediocre launcher when the games might end up here later. And as Miss Ann Thrope pointed out, CD Projekt Red is doing amazingly well. I've actually been using GOG Galaxy more than Steam recently, I've been sleeping on that launcher for too long and at this point GOG is my favorite PC storefront.

And I hope so, I cannot wait to see them fail in the most Epic way possible.
If Epic Store had pants he could already ♥♥♥♥ himself!
I'm confused, that article indicates ARK as the 4th free game.

I believe ARK is free next week.
Let's see how we can benefit from this.

Just create tons of accounts and receive those games.

Epic pays for those, so it's a good way to drain them dry.

By 1-2 years, those accounts will have good amount of games.
You can then sell those accounts for newbies.

Win on all fronts !
Has much most of us want Epic to fail. Sadly that won't happen anytime soon. Even if EGS makes significant losses they still have business that are much more profitable and any losses that EGS makes will be just insignificant. There is no doubt that Tencent will back them up.

As I see it both gta and civ6 is already everywhere and not expected to get any revenue itself. While it still generates money on DLCs. So putting them on some more boxes creates a potential for gain while does not create any realistic loss.

same goes for the other mentions. whoever was looking for them have them long ago.

Any proof gamers are only there for free games ? always wondered why people say this despite the fact games on there are selling quite well (according to the game devs).

Im not saying it's true or untrue, just wondering why steam users think this.
In this regard I'm a very simple man. I see free good games, I click weather it be from here or there, I'm just thankful they make them available, now... usually, I have some funds to spend on games but I can only imagine people who don't have them, how glad they are with giveaways like this although these days everyone that's got a computer can technically but a game or two, right?
If they were old epic I would fully support them.

But .... F tencent, so F epic.

I get more then I can ever play from humble choice anyways so I've had civ 6 for a while already. I can't even be bothered to redeem free games anymore.

A big chunk of Steams money is from csgo skins which people buy and sell everyday
