How to get rid of the scammer?
Hello community,

I was playing a game of Dota2 2 days ago, and got a message saying your profile has been reported and will get perma-ban if you don't take actions.

After the game I looked at the chat and started talking to the person (Name: [VALVE]Zoila). Initially I was convinced that there is an actual issue possible if I don't take actions, because of the way my profile got updated (name replaced with a number, pfp removed, description added showing me as a culprit, friends banned, etc..). They also had a specific formatting in chat and a very good English. They asked me to complete a "Confirmation Trade" with a friend that I trusted friend. I gave him the name of the friend and they started the trade.

Before completing the trade, I was curious and went on to read Valve communication guidelines which specifically mentioned that none of their employees will ever reach out in chat. This was very clearly highlighted.

I understood that the person is trying to scam me (even though I have almost nothing in my account). He reached back again next day asking to complete the trade. I responded saying he can do whatever he wants, but I'm not completing the trade.

Now the problem is that he has also uninstalled the game on my computer. It is a very tiring process to set it up back, and even if I do this, he will continue to remove the game and all the profile history.

How do I get rid of this scammer?

Thanks.

Just to be clear, I've not done anything in the last 10 years that would break rules. In fact, I don't interact with anyone outside the game. I log-in, play, disconnect. I don't get much time to do anything else anyways.

I have only 1 friend in-game and I don't talk to people rudely. I did, however, talk to the scammer in a very rude manner after I understood he is a scammer.

Secure the account

Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
Change passwords from a clean computer
Generate new backup codes https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey
Stop using shady third party skin trading/gambling sites or clicking suspicious links.

Be sure to report the account as well.

They should arrest the scammers, that would stop these kids.

But Steam Valve won't even shut down over one dozen child porn sharing Steam groups so I lost hope with GabeN's Valve whom are allowing illegal activities on Steam.

Does Steam have a remote uninstall feature?

Well, it has a remote install, so maybe that can also uninstall.

One way is for everyone not to fall for the scams. If no one falls for it, scammers can not achieve what they want.

You don't hear from admins via chat and especially not from Discod. Look at the disclaimer on all Valve employee profiles.

I don't think there is a way to get rid of them, best thing to do is to know who you are dealing with and be careful always.

Thanks for all your responses. I followed all the action items from Callahan's list already, but still the person was continuously harassing me.

Thankfully someone reported him (other than me) and actions were taken, and his account is blocked.

Nope. RATs are a thing though.

Could also be user error, like installing to removable storage and removing said storage from the computer.

Unfortunately the user got unblocked and still has some sort of access to my account. He came back, and un-did all that I did (including installing Dota2).

This is the latest communication from them: https://imgur.com/a/UvrLCgR

I have again reported their account for SCAM!

Well, reporting is one thing, but the important part is to remove their access to your account...
