Why are fromsoftware games so expensive on steam?
A bit high on their own ego aren't they these publishers, only reason why i would buy a license with a drm like dark souls 3 and armored core is cause of the amazing mods and whatever compatibility that comes with it, and of course pvp. Idk if it's my region but seriously outside from u.s who is gonna pay 70 dollars for armored core now or 40 dollars for dks1?

edit: it seems a blocked user was first to reply but i'm not engaging or seeing it's reply, everyone i block gives nonsensical input and is trolling

They know idiots will pay it, that’s why.

Valuing something doesn't make you an idiot. Neither does being able/willing to pay the asking price.

You're welcome to feel differently. If you want it less, or aren't willing to pay the asking price waiting for a sale is fine. But framing other people as idiots because they have different values is pretty short sighted ego massaging propaganda.

holy moly no wonder i blocked you before, you just ignore context and shape it around your own bubble, i'm just gonna report you for starting useless arguments.

Could you clarify what you mean?

Dark Souls 3 launched at 59.99 and has stayed there, with a few sales to drop it considerably lower. Sekiro is much the same as has Elden Ring.

I've seen no increase in prices over their entire release for any Fromsoft Game for their entire history on Steam, so curious why you make this claim.

don't know on your end but the deluxe edition was heavily discounted many times before elden ring was ever advertised

edit: and of course dark souls 1 and dark crud 2
Well, yes. But that's not an increase on prices. That's a discount, so even more confused on what you're trying to express. It looked as if you were implying they were raising the base prices, which has never happened. Or are you wanting them to be on sale all the time now?

Uh, well. Dark Souls 2 released at 59.99 as well. But that was a decade ago nearly and is now $39.99. Dark Souls Prepare to Die was also $59.99, still have my Games for Windows Live version priced such, and got a free version on Steam after GfWL closed.

So, still not sure what you're trying to claim.

In Pakistani culture it is customary to haggle. That's what's going on I think.

Well, I mean.. They've not played any Games on Steam on that account in years, so no idea why they'd even attempt that. No such thing either for online goods either way lol

Same reason a lot of games from Japanese devs are. They post it and forget it. They never look at it again after uploading it. This is why Steam needs auto decaying prices by default.

That's not correct.

While a lot of publishers do indeed keep the base price "forever", they generally increase their sale discount over tim. Although some franchises have a "hard" limit on that -- I've seen franchises that never go beyond -50%, or even -40%.

Going with a lot of these "games are too expensive"-style posts, it appears that publishers are quite successful with this kind of strategy: people ignore sale prices because they want the game "now" and only look at Steam, so they pay the full base price. At the same time, they also get some sales from people like me by putting up a good sale every now and then.

Also, I'm sure that Steam would consider adding an "auto decaying prices" feature if enough publishers asked for it. Which, apparently, hasn't happened. I don't know how many price changes can be queued ahead, though -- maybe the feature is already there.

You mean amazon.pk (or whatever their domain is) is actually a huge chat platform?

hmmm varies depends upon the publisher though they are simply called greedy by the general social media communuty, so they are only profitable if all their games are a guaranteed sure fire hit that is meant to be readily consumed day one

Repeating, “uR wRoNg,” doesn’t make it more true. Like I already said the publishers hate the 30% cut thing, and valve still forces them to pay it. Valve can dictate any terms that they want, because they are a monopoly.

sure they have very good market share but they can't really do anything about it. go back to when epic store used fortnite to expand it's store. So many stupid main demographic people flocked to the 30 percent cut like it effects them in any way and start talking about devs like they actually own or give a rat's ass on what happens to projects when they are done. In a free market valve would kill itself sooner then it needs to if it start taking advantage of it's monopoly. And for what really, the consumers?

Most publishers dislike having to pay ANY cut, what your sadly mistaken over is that most realize the benefit the cut provides. If they didn't feel steam was worth the cut then they would be free to release it on other stores instead such as EPIC which only charges them a 12% cut.

Hence why even games like Diablo 4 and Ubisoft games are being sold on Steam despite the fact that they could sell it on their own store and pay no cut.

You get what you pay for, and often the 20-30% cut steam charges is worth it due to the service steam built up, hence why people keep using it despite their being "cheaper" alternatives.

Valve is only a monopoly because they have a superior product that people want. There is nothing wrong with a company being dominant due to the superior service they offer. EPIC is free to improve their service and try to compete, but even with a lower cut they have to bribe dev's to be exclusive to their store because the dev's know they will sell far more on steam.

70-80% of 10,000,000 sales is far more then 88% of 1,000,000 sales.

Although it kinda just seems like you don't like what I said and are throwing spaghetti at the wall and hope something sticks. I think you're gonna need more spaghetti though.

Because STEAM is a monopoly, like I already said.

It's not. It's fairly dominant, but you can hardly go ten feet without someone mentioning numerous competitors. Repeating bad claims over and over doesn't make them true.

Valve can dictate the terms they want because it's their business and publishers are free to avoid Steam, or agree to exclusivity contracts on other platforms. Publishers not having the power to twist Valve's arm for terms more favorable to them doesn't make Valve a monopoly.

There's plenty of choices out there for publishers and consumers. Steam being the #1 option doesn't make them a monopoly.
