"Steam Support" contacted me about skins
Hi,

A recently got scammed for (second time LOL) my CS:GO/CS2 skins.
I lost 180 euros twice this way.
Basicly what happened is, that i got contacted from some guy name Menager David and Andrew and they blocked all of my friends, changed my profile picture and name (basicly everything). They said that my account was reported for scammed items and that they need for verify if the are legit or not. They wanted me to write them name of someone from my friends list to send skins to that guy.And I did it, again (stupid :/).And everything looked so real etc. even my logs says that I sent all of skins to my firend, that got removed from my friends list (not by me btw.)I didnt even made the offer to him, trade offer just apiered and i accepted it.They said that skins will be traded back in 8 days, which wont happen ofc.

Anyways, I just want to write these for everyone who may be contacted by these guys, PLEASE DONT send anyone your skins, beacuse no steam support will ever contact you via direct message on steam and will never try to take your items.Just be carefull what you are doing and dont contact suspicious people, dont visit suspicious sites etc.To be honest I can buy new skins since my inv wast to expensive, but for you guys just take care.

I Have only one question for community and people who read this:
- How is it possible for these guys to just manipulet my profile the way they want to (my inv and everything was on priavet and i dont have them, on my friends list)
- How can we protect form these guys and what to do to prevent these things (except form obivious - not to send your skins to unknown people and no to visit suspicious sites)

PS: sorry for bad grammar, writing these as fast as i can since i have some things to do atm, but want to make some kind of post in steam community for people who may be scammed by these ♥♥♥♥♥ :)

Don't buy from any site outside of the marketplace. Valve isn't hesitant about banning trading when catching people who sell off of the website.

Because you used Scamsites (the ones you listed earlier) and gave them your account information including Steam Guard Code. They have access to your account.

Follow these Steps to secure your account:
1. Scan for malware. https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Check that the email and phone number on the Steam account are still yours.
3. Deauthorize all other devices. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
4. Change passwords from a clean computer.
5. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
6. Revoke the API key (there should be no key). https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

Do these Steps, NOW.

Stop using Scam sites, stop trading outside of Steam due to greed.

don't even need to read to know you got socially engineered...

99.999% of hacks are social engineering... no one is giving you free things if you log into their hack site... none of that.

stop falling for it, only use steam through the client.

if you only ever access steam through the client you reduce your risk by like 100000000%.

From this time onwards, we should henceforth consider using an alternative term which is more in line with the facts: gifting skins.

Don't talk to Steam support, because everybody can claim they are Steam Support.

As far as we know, all skins are scams and you should not buy them.

The people who are trying to contact you are most likely scammers as well.

bought skins from {removed} and {removed}, so you say not to buy from those sites at all?

There are even more scam sites in your name history and in your groups :steamfacepalm:.

Secure your account and stop using scam sites!

Here is how to remove your name history:

How do I remove my profile name history?

Steam stores the previous 10 names that you've used for your profile. If you'd like to clear this history, follow these instructions:

  • Log in to your account and go to your profile
  • Click the drop down arrow next to your current persona name
  • Select clear previous aliases

You should also at least leave the group that has "bullet" in its name.

If this is the second time, why did you fall for it again?

Correct. Stop using 3rd party scam sites linked to phishing and then you wont get scammed or targeted by these people trying to scam you.
Never insert login details where they do not belong. And no links, no buttons

Keep all of your items buying, selling, and trading to Steam and the Steam Marketplace and you won't have your account highjacked and items stolen.
Stop putting value on those worthless skins and you will be much better off.
