Most around here simply print the wallet code on the receipt.
Steam lists some stores that sell them, though as said if those stores don't stock them, that's their choice.
This is the page: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/5BB2-E986-A733-CF0E
These are the stores listed for the UK, that doesn't mean other stores don't sell them, though:
Coinstar machines in grocery stores. Printable codes.

good luck finding any at Wilkinson they have gone bust last week.
Texas
I thought they were discounted because not even online at Currys or at Argos I can find them. Same at Game's website. Tesco doesn't sell them either, I checked in a couple of stores. They sold PS4, Roblox, Amazon, etc gift cards but not Steam's. Same goes for WHSmith. And I don't have any Wilkinson in my city. I still have to try John Lews tho
Thanks for your reply, I'll keep searching
In my city I can't find them at all either
Gift cards at retail-level have been plagued with scams for many years and as it's a like for like transaction, any losses from either their side or the consumer can really mount up. Non-activated cards have been stolen in masses and there's also been cases of switching where dishonest workers activate a card and then give the customer one that isn't. Also used cards can be resealed easily.
I'm sure there's a few retailers here and there that still offer this service but many are able to facilitate this at the till so it's best to ask there.
The workers normally gave me the receipt only, and all of them worked pretty well. But for that, I had to take the card from the shelves and give it at the till. Then the workers gave me the receipt, but they normally kept the card with themselves.
But I still see no reason to stop selling Steam gift cards only because this can happen with every card as well.
In the UK? Whereabouts, in Scotland?
No, none of them sells them, I went myself to Tesco, Asda, WHSmith, etc
I haven't gone to the toystore tho
Other, smaller newsagent's chains.
