How exactly is that a Steam issue when they can only help when you have "actually" lost control of your account by giving into the scammers demands.
Anyone can claim to be anyone, and anyone can link you to a legitimate steam employee/moderator, using a link to their profile page. You cannot trust anyone that sends such links, they try to use fear or gullibility of users to hand over their accounts to them
its very simple, dont click links in steam (if you do, then read them... see if they are misspelled, odd link, or google the link before clicking), private your profile to avoid bots messaging you (being part of large "groups" will attract them to you as well) and having your inventory open will attract them (in general, if they can value your account (worth money) then they will likely try stealing it from you), do not use your steam login info on any websites, even more so scam skin gambling sites, ignore any and all messages from random people about steam, pick and choose your "steam friends" wisely (or dont friend anyone at all).
most importantly, steam needs to start punishing people who advertise those scam skin gambling sites, they are all scams and if they havent taken your account by now, it means they are waiting for the right time.
if your account or someone you knows account is compromised/stolen, then contact support, or even check the forums for people posting copy/paste "secure your account" "guides", it gets spammed enough it should be very easy to find.
I'm glad you realized your mistake and reclaimed control of your account before it was too late, however your threat of lawyers... It's like the little guy who almost gets into a scrap with a 250 lb MMA fighter at a bar, then later brags he totally could have taken him. You know as well as we do that you don't have the knowledge, resources, or wherewithal to bring Valve to court, and even if you did you don't have a case.
Valve gives you some very good tools to maintain your account's security, but like any good lock the weakest point in the system is you. Make that weak point as strong as possible and you'll never have to worry. This was an excellent learning experience, and you're less likely to allow any scammer to drag you along like they did.
