Around the fire chat about the auto spam filter

Hello fellow steamers.

I just want to take a moment to address the steam auto spam.

First and foremost, to be clear, this is not a chat to gripe about steam or valve. I respect the steam staff, overall, and generally appreciate them and the work they do. They have CONSISTENTLY shown me compassion and understanding... working with me on conflicts as well as even taken times to be considerate about my PR concerns with my fellow steamer community members.

Do not come here if you plan to just complain about steam staff.

The auto spam checker though, that is flawed.

I bring this up because there have been times I've seen people say "if you got banned for spamming, you were spamming, stfu and stop spamming".

I mean, when someone gets banned for posting off topic content... in the off topic section... thats when you know theres something wrong. its literally an off topic, topic, in a section for off topic, topics, so unless its a trap then you shouldnt get off topic banned for off topic in the off topic section!

I'm sure you guys can guess, I had this happen to me. I went to staff, brought it up, they cleared the ban and confirmed it was a mistake.

And finally we get to the point of the post.
Does anyone here know how you would go about officially talking to steam about getting that whole algorithm corrected or even outright removed? If its so flawed that it literally is banning you under the premise of off topic when you are quite clearly on topic... in the off topic section... then something should be done, no?
For instance, why cant it tag off topic for moving to their proper topic sections? why not give people a warning to inform them something is considered off topic? Why not just tag a thread for review so that actual staff can then properly determine if its actually off topic or not?

but I also wanted to take a moment to present to the many of you who give people grief about spam bans to show you that, actually, not all spam bans are proper spam bans.

Stay on topic, even when you are in the off topic forum.

The algorithm you mention only scans for bad urls to scam sites, etc. It has no concept of subject or context. Thats where the human moderators come in. The more they're overturned the better trained they are to not shoot first and never ask questions later(in theory). Off Topic itself is for topics they don't already have specific forums for(but are still gaming/steam related somehow). Within a thread one should stay on that given topic. Threads where the topic is ambiguous tend to be problematic and might get locked/deleted at some point.

sure, uhuh, totally agree with you guys.

I made a thread, and absolutely stayed on topic.... for the off topic thread in the off topic section. within the thread, I totally stayed on that topic. absolutely. just in case you guys are saying that thinking this was the reason why.... because it wasnt.

In fact, I've had people come into my threads and go off topic, sometimes intentionally... sometimes in the off topic section.

Theres also lots of not gaming/steam discussions that go on in the off topic section... discussions that dont get removed.

That's mainly for multiposting around in various forums.

sure, but dont start trying to tell me how it works if you dont 100 percent know how it works... ok. no hate or anything, but its unproductive to assume with things like that.
