😪horror genre is dying😪
The most anticipated horror games of this summer are shooters like RE Village.

Earlier, in the days of the first "amnesia" and even "outlast", people in life would not have recognized a scary game where you can kill your enemy.

And right now, the players are so casual, which is a new generation, that they are afraid to play a horror shooter.

Mind you, horror with a story has never been popular in history.
Previously, only atmospheric horror games were popular.
Then "outlast" came and made popular horror games without atmosphere but with screamers.
Now Resident Evil 7 has set the trend that scary horrors are the ones where there is shooting.

I have no idea what the next step is to casualing the genre.
Refusal of dark locations?

what i found in general with Horror games, is like horror movies. Some few good ones will come out, then it start going over to action horror then plain action. same with games. Alone in the dark set a trend Resident evil followed up with that trend for years but went to action then back to horror. Then first Amnesia came along which set new trend in horror games then hold and behold now it is going back to either action horror or action, nothing new

RE Village is far closer to the roots of modern horror games than the Amensia series.

Hell, Resident Evil 1 is the game that coined the term Survival Horror.

Nothing wrong with Amnesia and its ilk, but complaining about RE killing the horror genre is like complaining about Doom killing the FPS genre.
Was there ever a horror genre to begin with?

Im going to have to agree with this.
“Game dead” threads don’t suffice — now we’re going to iterate with “genre dead” too?
System Shock is finally back!
Horror is a rather difficult genre to do well. Because the game , every game has a solution and once one understands the problem, the solution becomes a matter of execution.

One of the best horror games in recent times was ironically FNAF. Simply because it put you in a genuinely creepy situation and your ability to deal with the threats were extremely limited and required careful consideration.

That spawned the mascot horror genre and it went well until it got to the point where tropes and patterns started being recognized and now not so much with the horror.

Survival Horror is like wise. Once you jknow how to exploit the AI The threat diminishes. The things that make GOOD horror, are ironically the things that make for a POOR game.
Have you heard about the Alone In The Dark remake?
genuine horror is where you feel defenseless.

Here's a horror game that is significantly well received and came out a little less than a year ago.
Well, gaming in general is dying from a lack of ideas to a lack of technical talent. Most competent software developers are leaving to AI or other fields.

When that happens, the talent to implement games and unique ideas isn't there and you get subpar end-products.

The reality is that games of the past will never be replicated, we can only get useless overpriced filler with the occasional game that gets close to the older glory, but falls short and either gets canned by an extremely biased video games media or overpraised.
What? I have to strongly disagree. The horror genre is complex and there are a lot of games nowadays. Especially the indies go wild with ideas. It is also not limited to duck hunts where victims are defenseless. Not to mention that hunt scenarios are terror territory also.
Games like Silent Hill, Doom 3 and Dead Space happened. There is Tormented Souls. There is The Forest. And the Five Night at Freddys games do better than ever now with even a movie coming.
WTF is this thread even. :steamfacepalm:

Indeed, WTF.
What are you, 30+ years old, that you name games before 2015 release?

Why are there no games for 2020-2023 on your list?

And you can’t even name the expected horror of the future, in which there will be no shooting.

Why are you trying to argue if you don't understand games, you have no gaming experience, you don't follow the news, you're just a basic player who only plays popular games
