trolling and making bait threads is against discussion rules and moderators won't know unless they get reports about it
But if its a lemon meringue just enjoy it.
They're not going to remove it despite how its being misused. However, does anyone remember when they removed '/me' form the chatrooms? It seems to be back in almost the same way it was when people were abusing it, claiming to be valve staff or the steam application itself. My point is that once its in, no matter how bad it is they'll never remove it.
That's exactly what Steam wants. You think this never happened?
1. User A gives a clown to user B.
2. User B feels offended and wants to do the same, but they're out of points...
3. User B buys a game just to give someone a stupid award and get their "revenge".
Me neither, but people are different.
It seems you're not familiar with humans. They do worse, stupider things.
What's that saying? Never assign to malice what can easily be explained by incompetence? Or something like that...
I really doubt that's the intent. And well, if someone's that dumb with their money, there are easier and more lucrative ways to get them to part with it...
I think Valve just lacks any foresight and adds features without putting too much thought into the potential consequences. Kind of like the automated content filter and how it constantly breaks, leaving posts and comments stuck in limbo for hours or sometimes longer (fun fact: I found a thread that's from 2020 which still had pending comments).
Sounds like Valves employees and employers could be perfect politicians...
The malice is definitely there. Have you ever asked yourself why the icon for the award is a literal clown, instead of a jester? Show that icon to anyone that is not a Steam user and ask them what it represents... I can assure you that no one will say "a jester".
I'll not waste my points on people that gave me a jester, but I'm sure some will do. It's the old eye for an eye.
Well on that part I'll agree, the Jester award looks nothing like a Jester, it's quite obviously a clown. And I can't imagine nobody at the office thought maybe it could be perceived as an insult, and if you want to say something's funny, well I feel like the hilarious award does a better job of that. Especially because anyone who's spent any time on the internet recently has seen how "clown" has become a favourite insult of the internet.
I just meant I don't think the award system overall encourages people to spend money just to get points for the sake of insulting system...and it would take someone extremely petty to do that.
Although there are a lot of people who have lots of points and don't want anything that they're currently able to be used for (cosmetics/profile items) and if you don't care about points then you might as well use them to insult people you disagree with or just don't like.
