I watched now the rating of AAA games on steam, for the past 3 months.

Of course, there are good ones like "Hogwarts", "Like a Dragon Ishin" and "Atomic Hurt".

But there is:
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
Wanted: Dead
wild hearts
scars above

I would also add "Returnal", but now it has improved its reviews, thanks to patches.

We can also say "There is a good remake of Resident Evil 4", yes, but there is also a "Bad remake of Last of Us"

that is, what I'm all about.
someday the situation will change, and indie games will still be WORSE in terms of quality than tripleA projects.
but i see 2023 is exactly the same as 2022 and 2021 and 2020 in which indie games will SHOOTING and SHOOTING.

if you take the scales and weigh it, then the side that says "don't take the AAA game on release, it will be problematic" will win

I blame game trailers. They paint a false narrative of what people think a game is going to be. I'm still waiting for the release of Baldurs Gate 3 for... three years? It makes sense since it's Baldurs Gate 3. I guess they were going for a 3 kind of theme. It's the third game and it took three years before you could play the game fully even though it's been out for three years.

Difference being that BG3 is an Early Access game, while OP talks about "finished" games.

You're hitting the head of the nail in my head right now: there's nothing new.

Not in 2023 either. I'm always dumbfounded by people pretending like that tiny slice of history we're living through right now is the only one to have ever happened. I ain't even talking about stuff that's been decades ago (i.e. nazis in German parliament). The state of A gaming has been the literally same now as it's been the last year, the year before, the year before...

An attention span of under a year is kinda sad. Or funny, actually, depending on how involved you are. From some random dude on the forum, it's kinda funny even for the 100th time (different people have been posting the literally same for years). When your boss refuses to understand that decisions got long-term consequences (♥♥♥♥ the problems in a year, we got ♥♥♥♥ to decide in 2 days), let's say there's reasons why I'm in therapy. But I digress, short attention spans are fascinating.

What is there to discuss? The quality of games released over the past 5-6 years has gone down consistently.

People continue to pre-order, despite knowing better, then get burned over and over. Your wallet talks, but the publishers keep getting away with it, so they will keep doing it.

I dont see anything changing anytime soon. Cut and paste formulas, battle passes, shoddy content releases, nothing is going to change.

This argument is a timeless one and viewed by many through rose tinted glasses.

There are good games and bad games and meh games and all shades in-between.

it's *always* been the way.

"AAA" games are just a guarantee of a big budget not "the best" game.

I'm ancient and have been "gaming" since the late 70s.

Id say gaming is at a very healthy stage right now but it's audience is very different to early computer users.

I go through "droughts" gamewise and am in one right now but some goodies are on the horizon.
