The newer gen of consoles actually seem pretty good for the price they are but if you have a decent rig I just don't see the point in getting one, especially as most AAA titles from both consoles make their way over to pc eventually now anyway
This is why emulation is important. Long, long after the last NES gives up the ghost. Long after I'm dead. My great-grandchildren will still be able to fire up those games on their quantum, neuro, whatever kind of computers will be a thing by then.
You were in a lobby, you felt the vibe, you added each other, it was all self contained.
I used to love the buzz of a big midnight launch too. Now you can pay more to digitally pre-load and play a usually unfinished game early and it just kills the hype of a big release. It's convenient but I also miss physical editions. Thankfully there's barely any games worth picking one up for now and even then, a few games don't even come with a disc and just a code which defeats the purpose.
facts, midnight launches used to be so fun, my friends and i used to go wait in launch lines after school, wed all be so hyped for the game. now everyone buys them digitally
and ya, played black ops on ps3 back in the day, maybe i just dont know what games to play yet on pc but, in general, gaming online seems less social than it was
actually i learned how to desolder and maintain / replace the power supply on my ps3, so that thing is working again.
I wish i hung onto my old 8bit nes console, I could have fixed the rom plugpoints so easily with what i know now 😂
I think i still have it somewhere, though i simply bought a replacement when it died, which still works so i have no reason to get the big one repaired.
sad but true, the kids today will never know
my ps2 still works it was given away
my ps3 still works it has a brand new SSD drive
my ps4 still works, it also has a brand new SSD drive
my orginal nintendo still works, it is over 30 years old
my turbo graphix still works, it just has no games.
friends Xbox 360 broke, after ripping off a diode on the power button chip it worked again, weirdest thing ever cause actually removing the dead diode fixed the not powering on thing.
it seemed to be a intensional power button breaker to force people to send xbox back to manufacture for rerubish, sneaky sneaky.
now days though you don't need a console pc can do everything and more. consoles are great for kids that don't wanna trouble shoot problems all day with software, sadly ps4 and ps5 maybe xbox S has made gaming more difficult because of the download time required for games, kids waiting for 4 hours to play a game thats downloading a update is just a no go.
ya thats kinda where im at, i miss the console days a bit but im super happy with pc rn, and i dont have time to troubleshoot the old hardware anymore
as for problems, its a long list lol:
i just fixed my old wii (some of the parts inside wore down to the point where it was unusable) by swapping out parts from my grandmas wii that she never used (so i could keep the data, as the sd card slot was corroded)
my ps2 stopped reading disks so i got a replacement but the replacements starting to go too, and the replacement's controller ports disconnect pretty often
the buttons on my nes controller stopped being responsive enough to play, and the screws in the back are rusted in a way where if i try to take it apart i might not be able to get them back together
n64 joysticks being themselves lol, and bad luck i think but ive had two rca cables go out on me, also smash 64 needing a battery change so it could retain memory
my ps3 controllers got super jank so i had to get third party replacements and, after doing that, the ps3 started shutting off randomly half an hour into sessions (didnt wanna bother taking it apart so i found a surprising fix online where i unplug and hold down the power button for 40 seconds before playing and it actually works)
im sure i can fix most of these but the constant upkeep is why i switched to pc, and ive been happy since
if you were gonna try to help me troubleshoot its okay but thanks for reaching out, i appreciate it
