Game installed a trojan virus on my computer
I purchased Gnome Enchanted Jigsaw game and DLC, My computer would not install the game. However trying to install the game planted a trojan - trojan/win32/doplik.

It could be a false positive, but you can report the game on the Store page (look for the flag on the right side) and Valve can take a look.

Not necessarily. You are wise to take every potential threat seriously, but this is more than likely a false positive from a heuristic scan.

If the suspicious exe file is small enough, then try uploading it to virustotal.com and check what other mainstream anti-virus suites say about it. If none of the others report the same finding, then it lends weight to the false positive idea.

You don't seem to own the game on this account on Steam...

OP, are you trying to install this game via steam, purchased on steam, or through some other means?

Because as Hotsauce just showed, you are not marked as owning the game you claim to be having issues with, at least not on steam.

Let me guess, OP pirated the game and complaints about virus?

There's no point to having anti-virus / anti-malware if you don't trust it.

Always treat a positive detection seriously, never just assume it is a false positive (otherwise what's the point in using it ?)

I would recommend a second opinion scan, try using virustotal to get a better idea
https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload

until you can be 100% confident that the install is safe, I would recommend to not proceed.

This is kinda sus though - they are the very first person to open a thread on that game's forum...

The only review is from an account that received the game for free...

The OP has a private profile, so we can't assume they don't own the game on Steam, and thus cannot advise them wither way...

Valve scans the games before having them up in the store. I'm not saying it is impossible to get virus from a steam store game for this reason, but think for a second:

If a person gets an actual virus from the game, everyone who buys that game, would be getting the same virus. Which would lead to many reports and complaints, which would result with removal of the game from the store. Since that did not happen, we can say that it is a false positive.

We cannot. Certainly not with a high degree of confidence.

This game does not have many sales. There is a grand total of one post on its own discussion forum. If the OP ever posts there about this issue then 50% of all posts on this game's forum will be about the potential malware.

Also there are plenty of instances of Android and Apple users downloading malware from the official Google and Apple stores and using it for years before anyone realised. In a case involving one companies apps this year, something like 100 million users were affected and they didn't know a thing about it until it was discovered. This is despite best efforts by both companies to screen apps made available on their stores. So personally I'm not convinced by the argument.

Of course, we all have to make our minds up with regards potential false positives and whether to trust software, but lack of complaints in this case doesn't really tell us anything about whether it's affected or not.

Did you take a look at the game in question though. It's a 99 cent shovelware game released 9 days ago with OP being the only person to even comment. It has two reviews made by people with less than an hour of play time. If this was a game with tons of reviews and an active discussion board you'd have a point, but here I doubt the number of people who bought this game are in the double digits let alone people who actually tried to install it yet.

Normally if I bought a Steam game and my AV flagged it I would consider it a likely false positive, but in this case I'd be very suspicious and I would definitely flag it so that Valve can take a look.

You forgot the part that OP doesn't even own the game in question.

are you guys kidding me? its 9 day old game nobody is buying and its 99 cents and this guys takening a moment of his time to comment that game wouldn't install and it had a possible trojan

what in the heck is steam doing, pull the game and test it yourself steam support, until you can 100% say there is no trojan the game shouldn't be on the steam platform. there are plenty of steam games that do infact have data miners in them and trojan comparitive subcontext that tracks users data.

steam itself does this on there own side of the data steam so i think that is why so many of us don't get hit with trojan warnings for steam, because the software is clean, but the servers are recording everything the user does, says, clicks on, and installs, including games they view with potential to buy, we are all victims today of trackers, they call it "building personalized ads"

but in reality it is called data mining your perfered likes with attempt to market valid the user.
