Get this only when it is on sale, but you should be able to play coop on the same machine provided you have multiple controllers. The DLC are expensive, and I have never tried them.
I don't know about the old counsel versions of balders gate, I haven't played them on the pc.
Purchased BG3 with the express intent of playing coop with my gf. Aside from some small technical issues, plays coop great. Just got a release date of August 31, 2023 and if you purchase at any point before launch, you get a free upgrade to Deluxe Edition, which gives:
