my girlfriend wanted to make a steam account she could not use any part of steam until she paid $5 and had 5 games purchased what is going on i never had to do this

Steam accounts are free but if she wishes to use certain features; at least $5 must be added to the account or spent in the the Steam Store. You can still add her as a friend. You don't need to have 5 games on record either - just a measly $5 added/spent.

dw she just paid the pathetic thing the wind up of it is is that we are GBP so it said u can add £4 only XD

Things has changed because people get scammed, bots used to send hundreds of trade requests or send phising links to everybody. Valve had to make features limited for new users until they have spent 5 dollars.

She can buy games onto her Steam account, and she can accept friend requests from other people, no matter how little she has spent on the account.
