Any Good Animal Games?
As a veterinarian in college and video game lover, I love animals and anything to do with animals. Playing with animals, books about animals, etc. But what really peaks my interest is Animal Games, which there don't seem to be many of on Steam. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough but are there any good animal-based games? I'm not too picky when it comes to them.

It's only on sell on epic game store currently as an exclusive, but check out Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/536270/Ancestors_The_Humankind_Odyssey/

There's also one where you play a "goose" and ruin people's day (I think it's only on sale now on epic also as exclusive);

and another one where you play a "bee" (also only on sale on epic now I think as exclusive).

also - maybe check out planet zoo

and for a more ecosystem sim maybe check out equilinox

and Waking Mars is cool for emergent systems if you're into exobiology on Mars setting w/ some platforming:

I second Botanicula which is cute and fun and has puzzles.... as well as WolfQuest which is more a wolf survival game. And if you are interested in genetics (for certain inheritted health conditions and/or cosmentic inheritances etc) then I'd also suggest Niche: a genetics survival game. "Goat Simulator" which has been mentioned is fun/funny but its not so much popular as an animal focused game as for its silliness (as in what you can do, realistic or not as a goat, as well as 'broken' graphics/animations that have been kept because their absurdity is part of the 'charm'. I'd not really include it in a list of games for animal lovers / vet-track folk, unless that description appeals to you as well.

NIche, which I mentioned above is pretty open to all players, regardless of their understanding of genetics, and only need a mild/passing interest in genetics IMHO in order to play and succeed at. But if genetics is interesting to you, I'd also suggest looking into Sparkle, and Creatura.

FOr holidays, the sale price most of these games makes them very worth it to those who may be on the fence or on a constrained budget.

I'll second:

Unlike "Zoo Tycoon" games before it, it places all focus on the animals and their welfare. It's just fun to create exhibits that suit the needs of each one and then watching them interact with each other and the environment. Also, breeding those rare albino animals is always cool.

(And baby animals are just very cute...except for the wildebeest....their evil....very...very...evil...it's always the quiet ones...)

I don't know if anyone has said this already, but soon to come this year is a game that will come out sometime this year called Animal Shelter. Looks pretty good, I'm looking forward to it.
