Any Good Animal Games?
As a veterinarian in college and video game lover, I love animals and anything to do with animals. Playing with animals, books about animals, etc. But what really peaks my interest is Animal Games, which there don't seem to be many of on Steam. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough but are there any good animal-based games? I'm not too picky when it comes to them.

Here are two that come to mind that you can play as an animal.

Thank you both I'll check these out.

I've been playing a bunch of Mount and Blade: Warband lately, and Steam started recommending me games with the "horses" tag, most of which are hilariously unlike Mount and Blade. Here's what is tagged with horses: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=horses

Ecco the Dolphin is an older game, you might look it up or try it out on an emulator (not condoning that though). There ARE animal games (or what may as well be animal equivalents) on steam though not all of them are very friendly.

Haha, yeah I've had that happen to me before. I actually prefer Mount and Blade over horse games aimed at younger children.

I realize. I actually have no problem with games about hunting animals as I see animated hunting of artificial animals entirely different from real hunting. It's just that most of the hunting games aren't the best (imo) such as The Hunter, being a very VERY slow game and a lot of the Cabella's games being more like arcade shooters.

Goat Simulator
Zoo Tycoon (not on Steam, you'll have to search for it) is pretty good.

Stardew Valley, a farming game, has been very highly rated.

I know this is late, however I love animal games and know quite a few...
I don't have the links but a store search should show you them. Ones not on steam are marked with a *

Catlateral Damage: You are a cat destroying a house. Very satisfying.

Dog Sled Saga: You lead a team of sled dogs and go racing. Fun, simple, and about the dogs as much as it is about racing

*Mope.io: Not on steam as it is a website game, but you start as a mouse or shrimp and work your way up through ranks by eating and hunting other animals to get up to the Black Dragon. Very addictive.

Shelter: AMAZING GRAPHICS. You are a momma badger with four babies that you have to guide thorugh 5(?) levels. It is beautiful and I really 'bonded' with the badgers. You have to get food and chase of predators.

Shelter 2: Now you are a mother lynx with four cubs and you have to hunt for them, protect them, explore, and help them grow. It has a cool family tree feature for you to make lynx legacies!

Shelter 2: Paws: Haven't played it but you are a lost lynx cub I think.

Meadow (by Shelter people): Roleplay in the shelter universe as animals

Slime Rancher: Not strictly an animal game but you might like it. You suck up and keep adorable slimes in this funny sandbox slime farm game. Lots to do.

Spore: You have probably heard about this. People have mixed feelings for it but I find it enjoyable. You evolve a creature from cells to creatures to tribes to cities to space age with great customization.

Stardew Valley: You are a farmer making money from farming, animals, crops, fishing, foragiing and mining. You meet friends and do tasks. It is basically 'Amazing Pixel Farm Life Simulator' and I love it.

*Sims 3 Pets: If you like the sims series (a life simulator) then you should get the pets expansion. Sims 3 has one and sims 4 is getting one. You get dogs, cats, horses, fish, reptiles, birds, rodents, insects, turtles etc...

Tyto Ecology: Make a balanced biodome like the Eden Project. Great for learning about balanced ecosystems.

*FeralHeart: Animal roleplay with parkour, ots of worlds, huge customisation, and felines and canines.

*Warrior Cats: Untold Tails: BAsed on Warrior Cats book series. Be a warrior cat!

Cattails: Hunt, fight, explore, and socialise in an open world. Be a cat in this unique RPG animal sim.

Survivalism: A multi-animal simulator

*WiLD: You are a caveman(?) and you can control and use animals with shamanic like powers.

Untamed: Life of a Cougar: Be a cougar in this new game: hunt, drag carcasses, fight off opponents, protect and grow your cubs, mark territory, move dens, and survive scenarios.

MY FAVOURITE: WolfQuest 2.7: You can get a demo of 2.7, or the really old 2.5 for free, or the first chapter on your tablet to try it out. It is a pretty educational game set in Yellowstone with good graphics, customisation, and lots to do...
Hunt elk and hares. For a challenge, kill the bull elk! Scavenge from carcasses left around.
Meet coyotes, bears, cougars and foxes.
Communicate with other wlves in different packs.
Explore Yellowstone and find hidden items for extra achievements.
Find and mark a territry and den.
Unlock secret pup colours, dens, and 'pee power'.
Feed, protect, train, and grow your pups.
Go on a long journey with dangerous eagles and river crossings.
RP on servers or raise pups with online players.
Explore a special map with a mystery...
Learn about wolves.

Upcoming games:

Home Free: Be a stray dog in the city surviving

*Vulpine: Beautiful Hunter gatherer game. But you are a fox!

*Cereal Soup: Playable but still being made, play as a canine, feline, meercat, or bird. Super customisation options, explore six maps, chat, and rp.

The First Tree: Beautiful exploration game aboout a fox finding her family and a son reconnecting with his dad in Alaska.

Lost Ember: Explore a fallen world as different animals: climb cliffs as mountain goats, soar to great hieights as a bird, dive into deep waters and explore beautiful landscapes.

Isles of Eventide: Kickstarter failed but game is still being made. Customise a character and survive in a beautiful world. Be feline, canine, or equine. Be hungry, thirsty, survive weather and predators. Explore, collect, survive, all with a beautiful story and graphics.

Saurion: The most accurate and beautiful Dinosaur simulator

HK Project: Not much is knwn about this french game, but the video shows a cat with a box on its back exploring a dystopian city of robots. Looks interesting.

HOPE THIS HELPS, sorry for late and long post! :steamhappy:
