Why am I getting this message? i was just selling some old skins and looking at some new ones went to buy them and this error keeps coming up. in steam app, steam mobile app and browser. anyone got answers and a fix

Would it be equal to hacking? You would need change of IP if not your wifi then maybe mobile or some such if stuck. I wonder if a free VPN would be any different?

If you carry laptop on travels and avail hotel or relative family member wifi for work and play games. Would such change of IP be illegal. Using VPN is debatatable but if you had company provided or paid VPN would it be illegal? Can somone throw some light?

Your error seems to indicate you been rate limited- too many attempts in a short time. They made the create limiting on Steam far more harsh recently- it doesn't take much to get bonked. It's not a bug- it's a "security feature" Valve implemented to try to slow down hijackers to keep them from trading off inventories of account they hijacked to multiple alt accounts.

I want to say Valve put the new rate limit in at or just before the Halloween sale this year.

Things not to do_ don't keep trying. Each attempt before the cool down is expired will reset the cool down timer to the start,

Things to do- wait, like the error message says. It can be as little as 1 hour or as much as 24+ hours. Not sure if each attempt adds on to the length of the cool down or not.

If you have a VPN- set it to a different server in your own area (city or country). Don't bop out to a different country- it could trigger a "Possible Fraudulent Activity" strike. You can also reset your router by unplugging it waiting a few minutes, and plugging it back in and it will hopefully get assigned a new IP.

I can understand trade cooldown. But cannot even look at own inventory when this happens.

The same problem has been going on for almost 2 months. It is very difficult to find cs go items in the useless application of steam. While Steam gives time penalty to illegal accounts, it punishes normal users like us. And I don't think steam cares about this situation.

Its a massive hinderence when trying to sell items massively in own inventory. Sadly it blocks not frauds but account owners. One would think thsoe using 2FA should be exempt?
