Receiveng a lot of friend request lately
Hello,

Lately I have been receiveng friend request of people that I don't even know and have some kind of ban. I reject them all. Is this for something specific like having my inventory in public or something like that? Did you guys receive this kind of random friend requests?

Have a nice day you all!

I do receive random friend requests every now and then. Some of them want to talk, some ask me to stuff they're too lazy to ask about on the forums.

This is true, but since I receive some of people that has some kind of ban it triggers me a bit.

I don't think a scammer would use a flagged account to scam more people.

I have been in a stage where people have sent me many friend requests. Just ignore them and they'll stop sooner-or-later.

Hm, I'm not sure if this is related, but I was DM'd this on Discord:

heads up, Today/Tomorrow's is a cyber attack event day called "Pridefall" which will be occurring on ALL social media platforms, including Discord. People will try to send friend requests, there will be IP grabbers, hackers, and doxxers. During this time, do not accept any friend requests or DMs, from people you don't know. Please stay safe. If you are in any servers where you do not have admin perms, do inform the owner of each server. If you own your server, please let your members know.
Or it could be you have a rare item in your inventory and scammers are trying to get at it. Or you made a post in a group that is around skins/market items.

Not even an elaborate hoax. A rather cheap one, aimed at the weak-minded.

Well, maybe, but I don't know.

I never trade with people and never use the trade forum here in Steam since there are a lot of scammers. So, maybe it is because I have my inventory in public and they have noticed some rare item.

There's a line between caution and paranoia. Ironically, caution serves you better long-term. My point is, I heartily suggest you take the step over that line, back into caution territory.

Now that's paranoia!
Either that, or some REALLY strong sociophobia but I doubt you'd be posting on the forums if you had it so that's paranoia.

Let's no assume things in base of an internet forum, especially if you don't know the person behind the screen. XD

But I am thankful for the help you provided to me.

I have a problem with the "friend" concept in general. For me is the important step "aquaintance" missing.

Without that the chances are simple none existent, I will ever accept friend requests from people I do not even know.

That is the reason I simple ignore and block all requests from unknown people on general principle. It's just this missing step.

Social contacts do usually work this way: Assumed and unknown psychopath/Scammer -> Aquaintance -> Friend

The online social media programs just ignore the principle, trying to skip that second point, because it is more convenient for them. It does not work in many cases like myself.

I only add people, I knew from some MMO games I had contact over discord for a time and real life aquaintances to my friend list.

last time someone added me, they wanted game keys from me, but "sent too many request from their main and needed to use an alt"

People are so ugly sometimes...
