Hate for private profiles?

Speaking as someone with a private profile, why is it that I see people constantly resort to attacks on people for having profiles set to private?

I always found it strange, so I can help but feel curious.

Your thoughts?

OTOH you get those Reddit threads and Twitter posts of "OMG MY STEAM FRIEND GIFTED ME GTA!!!“ getting people's hopes up.

And trying is free.

Steam friends is one thing. Strangers is another, though.

Then again, I'm not a Reddit and Twitter user, I don't see those things.

Once i participated in a topic of someone in a stupid forum of a stupid game asking for "the game".
Did not like how everyone unloaded their hate on that person. That was my participation.

Few hours to a day later got a friendrequest,
i asked what is the reason?
And after technically many hours of time to think on their side, got some very hateful lines how bad i was to beg for a game.

I think that is more worse than someone asking for a game.

And in those moments, having a private profile is the right decision.

People are just generally nosey. And let's be honest the only reason people make a big stink about peoples profiles being private is it denies them that little avenue for a personal attack. I keep mine private because every time it's open I get hammered by people asking me to buy them games since I own over 5k. As if my game count is reason enough that i owe them something. It just comes down to nothing about my game ownership or play time is any of your business. Get over it.

Particularly sweet is the rabble, which is offended and does not know how to vent its anger. So screenshots are commented. Cute. Therefore immediately reported and blocked.

Lots of people tried to scam me and, yep, you guessed it - they all had private profiles.
So I'm never adding anyone with a private profile.

Good thing it doesn't bother me. I'm in full support of getting even more privacy options and people using them when they so wish.

I thought of this too, but even when you try to explain this to people, they continue to attack you... I guess that most people are dumb, though that's not surprising...

I dont conclude about people by their steam profile status.

Maybe i have seen too many topics where the profile status was all over the place.

If I spent 10 minutes of my time worrying about the profiles of other people that is 10 minutes I lost when I could have been doing something far more productive.

Same with wondering what people are really like behind their computer screens saying things that most of us pretty much know they wouldn't have the balls to say in public. I certainly don't believe everyone here is a liar but if you are wasting your day away on social media of any kind I have to wonder about your priorities.

BTW I personally try to avoid using the word hate as it implies there is some type of love there as well. You can't have one without the other.
