Skull & Bones was removed from the steam store?
Ubisoft game that I had on my wishlist for a while and noticed it was missing. Did it get cancelled?

Yes. https://steamdb.info/app/370010/history/
It will probably be on Epic next year.

"steam is destroying the PC gaming market by building a monopoly and taking 30% of game profits"

And epic is destroying my trust in developers, by buying them out and starting the temp exclusively ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

No idea where i was going with this...
But i hate that devs show there games here get players hyped, and then go over to epic...
I know it's technically the devs fault for selling out but damn epic to the deepest pits of hell with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ wifi for starting it

They already have new revenue tiers.

Go where the products are sold. Don't be loyal to just one place for your games.

Console manufacturers started it.

"steam is destroying the PC gaming market by building a monopoly and taking 30% of game profits"

Translation:
"We at Epic Games bet against PC gaming in the early 2000s while going all-in on console gaming. Meanwhile our major shareholder, Tencent, expects a bigger return on their investment. PC didn't die off like we thought, and instead grew into a juggernaut. We can't go back in time and invest more in PC gaming, so we need to try and hammer a wedge into Valve's Steam instead, because we want all their customers and their money. We'll achieve this with anti-competitive practices by taking away player choice with paid exclusives. We will attract more investors by increasing the number of Epic accounts through free games, and we'll simply neglect to mention that the vast majority of those new accounts aren't spending any money. We'll also start a grass-roots social media campaign to paint Valve as the greedy bad-guys and Epic as the benevolent good-guys. We'll say it's good for gaming and good for gamers, though really we just want to tear down Valve and pick up the pieces because we regret the decisions we made 15 years ago. We can keep this up as long as Fortnite is successful."

Saw the leaked footage the came out today and it looks just like another generic Ubisoft title with recycled assets. No big loss.

Practices like that make people less likely to purchase the game, due to essentially being bribed for exclusivity, thus hating the other platform and hating the Developer for not openly selling on as many stores as they'd like.

Bribed exclusives of 1-Yr or higher is damaging as the Developer is essentially saying instead of relying on sales from customers, they'd rather take the bribe and be unconcerned with sales, support, or making something well enough in the eyes of customers. By the time it comes to other stores - if it does, the damage to the reputation to both parties is already done.

People will buy games on different platforms as shown by even regulars here, but that doesn't mean they're just going to go with unethical practices like that, which could be seen as anti-consumer to many.

I can't stand Epic Store. I will never buy from them. Same goes from my part to all developers who launch on Epic. I respect anyone who does, but I have my principles too.

well... didn't ubisoft pull their other latest games from steam?
Immortals, division 2, ghost recon breakpoint, watchdogs legion I think.

Let em go play with epic... it's bad enough a couple of their games are losing online this year. I can only imagine they're going to just be nintendo and let all this stuff die, or remaster games and double dip. Both choices suck for previous customers.

Yes they have, the other subtle point people have missed is that you can't buy keys for Ubi games from sites like Green Man Gaming during the Epic exclusive period. If that isn't reducing consumer choice I don't know what is.

All those games bombing on epic instead of Steam was probably the right call from a business standpoint. Not as many eyes to point and yell "wtf ubisoft did it again" :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

Fun fact: Ubisoft prefer the EGS over Steam due to people's tendency to buy games on Steam. A game listing on the EGS acts more like an ad for getting the game on Uplay than a game listing on Steam.
According to Ubisoft, anyway, let's assume they know what they're talking about.

I would prefer to have a choice to buy the game where I want. If I want to give more money to dev, I go to Epic and buy here.

This is terrible advice. Don't waste your money on exclusive new releases. Wait until you can buy it the way you want to.

Steam is deigned for the gamer, EGS is designed to sell you stuff. Be loyal to the seller that is loyal to you, and provides you with a quality product, service, and/or experience.
Zero, Dark Knight 2022 年 7 月 10 日 上午 1:55
Ubisoft does this for a lot of products, they put a game on here, they wait until they have a release date, and then they pull it so no one can actually buy it.

I actually find it extremely scummy, as Ubisoft has their own platform and launcher.

Want proof?
Search for the Anno series on Steam. You won't find 1800 by the Store.

but it's there.

Because you were able to pre-purchase Anno 1800 on Steam before it was pulled. Ubisoft had to honor those sales, which is why it still kinda is on Steam, although no longer buyable.
