Stealth Games! Whats out there?
Hey all,

I was curious about what stealth games are out there for the stealth genre! I would like to know the name of the game and the mechanics in it that make it unique or fun at the very least.

For me, my favorites have been thief and tenchu Z, I haven't had a stealth game similar to this in a LONG time and was hoping to hear about cool mechanics in newer stealth games as well as just what mechanics would make the ideal stealth game.

Splinter cell and Commandos (but I'm sure you already knew about and played both)
I remember getting so involved in commandos (despite the birds eye view / "distant" gameplay), that I jumped if I was foolish enough to be spotted by the guards.

PS: Thief is the best "sneaky" game ever

I have a vague memory playing Tenchu on the PS1, it had a level editor thats what I remember the most. Splintercell in the old days was a great stealth game, after that came Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 which brought stealth gameplay to a new standard.

My current fav stealth games are the Dishonored games, the last 2 Deus Ex games and MGSV. I haven't really payed attention to the store and I am not sure if there are newer tripple A stealth games out there.

Haven't played the games you mention but stealth is a big element of these:

I have to throw the great grandpa of the genre in the ring. Personally, I prefer 2, but it’s a classic.

It's a puzzle platformer rather than action

Non-stealth is (mostly) viable but making it through the missions without getting spotted is more fulfilling IMO

“Don’t assassinate; use musou!”
“There’s not enough time for you to move in stealth. Just fight and kill. Stealth is useless since you’ll be discovered sooner or later!”
“Killing everyone who saw you is the perfect assassination."

whats the point in stealth mechanics if you're discovered 8/10 of the time? either make it a stealth game or don't.

dishonored is linked but the thing is that some levels are literally impossible to stealth around on, meaning it isn't a stealth game ad shouldn't be on this list. that goes for any other game that doesn't have a proper stealth mechanic where you can't sneak around without being caught.

makes me pine away for the good old days with thief on higher difficulty where some missions objectives is to not be detected. how i miss those days.

related to this: deus ex. there are stealth mechanics on that game as well if you're going for the typical brainless type games of today.
